My name is Robert and I am a recent transplant to Michigan. I was a certified teacher back in Texas, but I wanted to explore. In college, I did a lot of private tutoring for my friends and classmates. My major was in Elementary Education with some emphasis in Adult and ELL. I've also tutored in basic college Math, Science, and English.
I would prefer to tutor at the college level but some exceptions will be made. My degree is for PreK-6 and my Master's work is for learners of all ages. I also like tutoring for test preparation. I've always been a great test taker and like to pass along tools and tips for those who need it. I've had experience with ACT, SAT, GRE, and all of the teacher certification testing. I would prefer that all tutoring sessions take place in a public place, especially for the first few sessions.
I require at least 2 hour notice for cancellation of sessions.
I have been through basic math classes many times between all of my undergraduate and graduate courses. This has giving me a lot of experience in learning many ways to approach a problem to find the most successful and timely manner. There is almost always a tool/trick that someone hasn't tried that will work great for them.
Taking tests has always come naturally to me. This isn't because I'm smarter than everyone, but simply because I know how to approach the tests. While material is importing, it isn't the only deciding factor in passing the exam.
K-6 are the most important grades in my opinion as this is where the foundations of education are built. My degree is in EC-6 and this is where my work and teaching experience reside primarily.
If you think I may be able to help you, feel free to contact me and let's determine if I'm the right tutor for you. If I do not think I'm a good fit, I will tell you honestly and not waste your time or money. I look forward to hearing from you and to helping you be successful. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
