About Kelly

Hello!

My name is Ms. Reeve and I am a Special Education Teacher in a dual language school in Kalamazoo. This position includes teaching core subject curriculum, study skills, remedial skills, test taking skills and organizational skills. Differentiated instruction is necessary to work with a wide range of abilities which make me a great candidate for tutoring various subjects. Previously I have worked as an academic interventionist and a substitute teacher, which required me to have a large knowledge base on all subjects.

I have my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts, as well as endorsements in Emotional Impairments and Learning Disabilities. I have my Master's Degree in Special Education also.

With my work experience and my education, I understand that all students learn differently and it is my job to find ways to teach to meet those learning styles. The best way to do this is to build positive relationships and help students make connections between their learning and their lives.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have met all of the qualifications for endorsements in Learning Disabilities and Emotional Impairments. As an Academic Interventionist, I have worked with several students with ADD/ADHD and various other disorders. I also have a son who has Bipolar disorder which has led me to research different learning styles and different teaching methods to meet a variety of personalities.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have my degree in elementary education as well as language arts. I have taught an at-risk kindergarten program, as well as worked as a substitute in grades K-8 since April 2008. I have also worked with at-risk students as an interventionist. By doing this, I have gained a working knowledge of all four core subjects in grades K-8.

Special Needs

I have met all of the qualifications for endorsements in Learning Disabilities and Emotional Impairments. As an Academic Interventionist, I have worked with several students with ADD/ADHD and various other disorders. I also have a son who has Bipolar disorder which has led me to research different learning styles and different teaching methods to meet a variety of personalities.

Study Skills

I have worked as an Academic Interventionist with two different school districts. While working in this capacity, one of my job functions was to teach my students organizational skills and study skills. My students were all struggling in at least one core subject and all passed. I also learned many different techniques to teach when I was doing my coursework for my endorsements in Learning Disabilities and Emotional Impairments.

Appreciate Kelly!

I really appreciate the effort and interest that Kelly is taking in helping my niece and nephew with their reading skills. While I'm not able to sit in on their lessons, I appreciate her detailed write-up of what they do and accomplish with each session. Thank you, Kelly, for making a difference in the lives of others! Looking forward to seeing their continued progress!!!
