Grand Valley State University, MI (Biology)
I LOVE science.....especially Biology. It is the one subject that has always seemed to come naturally to me, but for many it can be very complicated to understand, especially when you get into the more complicated subjects like genetics and molecular biology. For whatever reason, genetics and biology came very easy to me, and very quickly became my favorite subjects.
My expertise is in genetics and molecular biology, but as that is a small part of a rather vast subject I am very knowledgeable in general biology as well as chemistry. However I must point out that I have very little knowledge in the human anatomy and physiology area of biology as I did not take any anatomy courses.
I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelors in biology and a genetics/molecular biology emphasis. I currently have a full time job and am only available to tutor in the evenings, anytime after 5 pm. In all honesty I have no teaching or tutoring experience, aside from the occasional friend that needed help. However I always had in interest in tutoring since I really enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and love science!! Also for what it's worth I am very organized and detail oriented, which I believe helps when constructing lesson plans over the necessary material. Hello

Kristina previewed my daughters review guide to be sure she could help her with any question. She was good at explaining concepts with my daughter.
Kristina has been great for our daughter. She has outlined chapters of material and brought them to sessions, helped her prepare for retakes on tests and "retaught" material currently covered in class so that our daughter has a better understanding. So far this has been an awesome experience - highly recommended!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My major from GVSU was in biology with an emphasis on genetics and cell/molecular biology. I have taken several biology couses from plant to animal to cellular biology. My greatest knowledge in biology is in the cell and molecular portion. However I do have introductory biology knowledge. However I have very little knowledge animal biology and no knowledge in human anatomy, due to the fact that I have not taken any courses on that portion. I have some biology text books still and all of my class notes for reference.
Chemistry was my first love of science back when I took it in high school and was initially what I planned on majoring in before I decided on biology, however, my major in biology included taking chemistry classes and I still enjoyed chemistry and did very well.
Genetics my favorite subject!! My major from GVSU was in biology, but with an emphasis on genetics and cell/molecular biology. With that I have taken several courses that cover both genetics and molecular biology. I have great expertise in the basics of genetics, for instance punnett squares and the cell cycles (mitosis and meiosis). As well as knowledge in the more complex levels, including DNA structure, replication, transcription and translation. For reference I have a couple genetic text books still, as well as all of my notes from every genetics related class I have taken.
I took Microbiology at GVSU, as part of my major. I had to take both the lecture and laboratory and really enjoyed it, especially the lab portion. I still have all of my notes from the class, as well as my book.
I took organic chemistry at GVSU and the subject came rather natural to me. I enjoyed the class more than I originally thought. My expertise for this course would be in helping understand the basics of organic chemistry, starting with naming and drawing compounds. As well as helping understand several mechanisms and reactions. I also excelled in reading NMR and IR spectra. However my weakest section in this class was acids and bases. For reference I still own my organic chemistry book and answer book, to the chapter problems, as well as all of my class notes. So I am able to look up and review any part of this course.
