I did my undergraduate and Master degrees in Nuclear Chemistry. I then obtained a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia (Canada) with a GPA of 3.98. After graduation, I worked as a full time researcher at the University of Toronto (2 years), Concordia University in Montreal (2 years) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (3 years). I then took a Professor position at Kettering University, a leading undergraduate engineering school in the country. I have now worked at Kettering for more than 10 years and have taught here a number of chemistry and physics courses.

I am passionate about teaching and science education, and have published papers on educational journals targeting audiences that range from middle school and high school students, all the way to college and graduate students. I have received several teaching awards at Kettering, including 'Outstanding Teaching Award' and 'Innovation in Teaching'. Over the last 25 years, I have taught college courses in English and Spanish which I speak fluently, in Cuba, Canada and United States. My teaching philosophy judiciously combines rigorous and elementary approaches. I often use multiple strategies to teach a concept, and when appropriate, discuss the relationship between those strategies. I am particularly interested in the application of mathematical and computational methods in science and engineering.

I am a member of both the American Chemical Society and the American Physical Society. I have dozens of publications in the leading chemistry and physics journals, and have presented my work at national and international conferences. I have had the privilege to make a number contributions in my area of research; broadly defined as Computational Materials Sciences (requiring thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, quantum mechanics, and state of the art computer simulation methods).

Great professor, super helpful and kind!!!

I really appreciate that he was thorough and did not just assume I knew everything. He really knows his stuff which was hard to find for Physical Chemistry. It was super useful that he personalized the session to what I needed with practice problems and an equation sheet that I provided. Great teaching style overall!

Great tutor

He really helped me out a lot with physical chemistry. I was struggling in the class until I started my tutoring sessions with him, then it became a lot better. He made the topics easy to understand and worked through the homework problems with me in a way that was easy to follow. I highly recommend him for any help in physical chemistry concerning quantum mechanics, the schrödinger equation, and any other associated topics. 11/10 would definitely go back if I need to.
