I have taught English and social studies in public and private school over the last 12 years. I don't have a lot of experience tutoring, but I really love the idea of being able to devote my attention and expertise to helping a single or small group of students to reach their academic goals.
I will admit to being a little bit of a nerd/geek, but this tends to help me relate easier to my students and they humor me quite a bit. I like trying to make learning fun and interesting, but also to help it fit with real life. I have a BA and Master's in English, and honestly, I just love reading, writing, and our language. I have taught ELA in 9th-12th grade classes over the last 12 years and I enjoy inspiring others to read and write. I've participated in many trainings to improve vocabulary acquisition, reading comprehension and analysis, and writing skills.
My minor is in social studies and I have taught predominately US history with a smattering of world history and economics. I really enjoy learning/teaching about the foundations of our country and others as well as helping students develop a love of history. History is so much more than dry dates and people!

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
