Making learning fun? I'm sure it sounds like a joke to most people but that is what I try to obtain. I have several years of teaching/tutoring students from toddlers all the way up to high school students. I have a bachelor's degree in History / Political Science education from Saginaw Valley State University and graduated with a 3.83 gpa. During my time at SVSU I successfully completed fieldwork at Bay City Central High School, Saginaw High School, Bay City Western Middle School, and my student teaching at Bangor John Glenn High School. During this time I taught History, Geography, Political Science and Economics. I was able to form creative and fun lesson plans that were quite successful in enabling students to grasp difficult subjects.
After my student teaching experience, I found that I was not particularly fond of the hectic large classroom environment. I did indeed working with students one-on-one, which unfortunately there is little time for in the large classroom environment. I have been working at Dow Chemical in Midland and use my education background daily in conducting training for technicians and operators and formulating, leading, and evaluating safety meetings. Outside of work I enjoy running/fitness, spending time with family, and gardening.
Now that I have 4 young children of my own, I have realized an increased zeal for helping students exceed. I'm looking to use my vast knowledge of education techniques and understanding of different learning styles to help more people out. I think of education as a two-way street: the teacher or tutor needs to constantly receive and act upon feedback from the individual learner in order for both to be successful. I am intent on helping people better understand subject matter, all while attempting to make it fun and interesting. I can guarantee that I will put my heart into helping others learn, and hopefully they will gain the techniques needed to have continued success both in their education and in whatever career path they take!
