I have been an educator for over 25 years. I hold a Master in Special Education Degree from Eastern Michigan University with a focus on Learning Disabilities and have received specialized training in the Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction through the Michigan Dyslexia Institute. I have effectively worked with many students from Kindergarten through adult to develop reading skills and fluency using this approach. I have developed an effective way of working online with many ages and skill levels. I respect a student's age, and will work vocabulary, English and writing skills into my lessons as much as it is appropriate and the student is ready. My philosophy is to move as quickly as a student is able, but as slowly as needed. A student's confidence and feeling of accomplishment is as important as mastery of skills and concepts.

I have also studied the Institute For Excellence In Writing Structure and Style writing curriculum and methods and am passionate about the results I have gotten with my students of all ages and abilities! This is a structured , fun approach to learning composition and grammar that really works! I am available to teach small groups in a homeschool setting.

I also have a daughter with a language-based learning disability and a son with ADHD, so I have both a teacher and parent perspective on the challenges that can arise with learning. I am passionate about discovering the way each student learns best and believe it's most important to look at what works or doesn't work on an individual basis. I will work with the student to discover strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, in order to craft a learning plan that benefits each student individually. I am constantly evaluating progress and "tweaking" individual learning plans as necessary. Nothing thrills me more than seeing a learner's eyes light up when we've hit on what works for them!

Amazing Tutor!

Our 8 year old son has made tremendous progress with Kristin’s help. She is very patient and is able to keep him engaged during the entire session (which was a hesitation of mine regarding online tutoring). She develops the lessons based on his progress and keeps me updated weekly. I would recommend Kristin to anyone in need of a knowledgeable, sweet and patient tutor!

Patient, effective tutor

Kristin has been helping my daughter, who is dyslexic, with her reading, spelling and comprehension. She has been helping her weekly for nearly a year...and my daughter has made terrific progress. I deeply appreciate Kristin's approach - she is patient and has kept me looped in all along the way. My daughter has made more progress with Kristin than any other tutor over the years.

Thorough Analysis of Strengths and Weaknesses

We have only had one less with Kristin so far, but we found her assessment of my 11-year-old son's skills very thorough and detailed. We really appreciate the time she took to write out, in very specific detail, her findings of his reading and spelling levels.

Best Tutor Especially For Dyslexic Students

Kristin has done such an amazing job teaching our daughter how to read and write. She has an ability to teach in a way that our daughter understands. The tools that she has given her has allowed her to make so much progress in such a short amount of time . IF you are considering another tutor DON'T. Kristin has been such a blessing!

Great Tutor

Kristin was very patient and kind with my son. She was also very flexible if we had to change a tutoring appointment. Kristin worked diligently in pursuing a solution to my son's reading issues. She was able to identity some problems we had not thought of before. I highly recommend her.
