My name is Mary. I was a high school teacher at EAJ High School in Mount Morris Michigan for thirty-five years. I taught individualized math, general math, consumer math, prealgebra, algebra, geometry, algebra II, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. While teaching, I did private tutoring for my friends' children. Presently, I am retired and I am tutoring for a private company. I have tutored all levels of math while working for this company including elementary, junior high, high school, and first year college. I love math and I love working with students. Hi.

Mary rescued my daughter who had gotten tremendously behind in trigonometry when her online school teacher essentially failed to teach an entire semester. Mary was able to come in near the end of the semester and in 2 1/2 weeks helped my daughter successfully catch up on 2 MONTHS of lessons. On Day 1 my daughter's first comment was "Mary really knows math!" Not only does she know her math, but she's a phenomenal teacher! She jumped in to a difficult situation, equipped my daughter with the tools she needed, and was able to get my daughter past the anxiety of being lost and behind to being confident and fully prepared for her final exam. We're grateful we found her!
She is a wonderful teacher. She came highly recommended. She is very patient and kind. I could have not found a better person for the job!!
Mary is very helpful and patient with my daughter. She is encouraging and always has positive things to say. She has been great. Thank you Mary!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I will follow the State of Michigan guidelines for this subject. Algebra I is the study of functions, linear relationships, quadratics, rational expressions, exponents, roots and data analysis. Once these skills are learned then they are applied to geometry and real life applications.
For Algebra II, I will make sure the State of Michigan's guidelines will be followed. The basics-order of operations, evaluating and simplifying algebraic expressions- will be the introduction. Solving multi-step equations and inequalities with applications of this will be covered. Graphing of linear functions and inequalities is another topic. System of equations and applications is another topic. Other topics are matrices, complex numbers, quadratics, polynomial functions, conic sections, radicals, rational functions and exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences, series, and Trigonometry.
I will follow the State of Michigan guidelines for the specific elementary grade level I tutor. I will work on the child's profeceincy in basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and integers depending on what grade level the student is in.
I will follow the State of Michigan guidelines for Geometry. First, I will make sure they have the necessary algebraic skills needed to do Geometry. First, the basics which include basic definitions and angles will be discussed. Properties and applications of parallel lines will be covered. Coordinate geometry which includes graphing linear equations, midpoint and distance formulas are also topics. I will cover properties of triangles, as well as, congruent triangles and similar triangles including right triangles. Properties of quadrilaterals and other polygons will be discussed. Right triangle trigonometry will be a topic. I will teach area, volume, and surface area Properties of circles is studied. Constructions and transformations is another topic. Throughout the course direct and indirect proofs will be done in the various areas.
Properties and operations of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and integers will be covered. Solving and graphing algebraic equations and inequalities is another topic. Ratios, proportions, exponents and factors will be tutored. For geometry part of pre-algebra the following will be included properties of angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles, transformations, right triangle trigonometry,, area, volume and surface area.
All types of functions and their properties are included. The types of functions include: linear, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric. Other topics covered are linear systems, matrices. sequences and series. The topic of Analytic Geometry is covered. Finally, limits are covered.
Mary H. passed a background check on 8/17/12. The check was ordered by Mary through First Advantage. For more information, please review the background check information page.
After sending a message to Mary, you will be able to order a new background check for $7.99. As part of your tutor selection process, we encourage you to run updated background checks. Please also review the safety tips for hiring tutors.
