I am a native Spanish speaker, fully bilingual in Spanish and English. I am certified to teach Spanish and French, as well as K-8th grade.
I grew up in Spain, where I attended a British school, and received an excellent education. My mother is Spanish and my father was American. I came to Michigan to go to college. I have been a Spanish teacher since 2000. I am also fluent in French and have a strong understanding of Italian. I have tutored privately, from children to teenagers to adults, for many years. I have helped many high school students significantly raise their grades in Spanish and French. I can also tutor in English and ESL, as well as preparing for SAT's and ACT's.
I have various methods of tutoring depending on the needs of my students. I believe in speaking the language, in using flashcards, and working with worksheets. I teach the necessary grammar lessons, following the student textbook, and finding supplemental material from other textbooks.
I have a wonderful rapport with students, and teaching a foreign language is my passion, which I convey to my students, and get them excited about the language. I am a native Spanish speaker, fully bilingual in Spanish and English. I am certified to teach Spanish and French, as well as K-8th grade.

Francisca has been great with my daughter (who is in high school). She gives great assignments that interest her and appeal to her age and she mixes things up so it's not repetitive or boring. She's also highly organized and has taught my daughter many tricks to keep things in order.
Base of conversation. Very appreciated.
My daughters tells me that the lesson is interesting and funny. My daughter's are developing a greater interest in learning English.
I'm at the end of high school Spanish II and finally understanding the language thanks to Francisca. She also fit me in for extra sessions before my exams. That helped bring my grade up a whole level!
We were very fortunate to cross paths with Ms. Francisca back in September. The children liked her after their very first lesson. She was kind and patient with them and was able to tutor in Spanish and French with the same rigor. She was able to improve our freshman's grades from a B to now an A+ by working with his high school teacher. She definitely goes above and beyond our expectations.
Francisca spent an hour with our 7th grader recently, and in the very first lesson, helped her a lot by teaching her concepts about the Spanish language that our daughter says have made her homework and classwork very easy! Thank you, Francisca. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Francisca was very quickly able to evaluate where my daughter needed help and immediately went to work! My daughters grade improved right away. Francisca is great to work with and always willing to help with tests, mid-terms etc. Very good tutor!!!
Francisca is a very good tutor for us because she has been teaching students from IA just like my son. She is very friendly and has given my son many study resources. She is very strict on time but, other than that she is a very good tutor and knows French very well.
Francisca is very sincere and dedicated. Within two sessions she cleared up many of the confusions that my daughter had, and gave her many new tools for studying. My daughter enjoys working with her.
Francesca is also very responsive to email, text or phone calls.
Francisca is a wonderful tutor. My son needed lot of help with studies. With help of Francisca he was able to get better grades. She is very knowledgeable and intelligent. She is very flexible and accommodating also. I will recommend Francisca to everyone.
Francisca continues to understand the abilities and struggles of someone with learning disabilities, adjusting the work they do with compassion and insight. Finding a tutor like this is just another piece in believing that my child's goal to learn another language will be reached. We are grateful Francisca opens this door for her and moves toward seeing her succeed. Francisca made it clear from the start that she too wants to see her succeed!
It is over a year since we found this tutor. My daughter and she have made a deep connection and are a good team. The bond that they've formed is especially important to my daughter, as she adores the interaction while learning French.
May, 2013 Francisca still amazes with creativity and teaching through a plethora of modalities. A+++
Francisca has been working with my son for the past few months and his teacher has noticed (and commented on) the improvement in his work. While she only meets with him once per week, the hour long tutoring session has been sufficient to answer my son's questions, practice verb conjugation and direct his thoughts towards independently assessing what the teacher is attempting to get the class to understand. We receive weekly reminders confirming our meeting time and she has also reached out to my son's teacher to make sure she is helping him in the areas the the teacher feels need strengthening.
Tutoring with Francisca has been extremely beneficial.
Francisca is a great Tutor. I've been attending Spanish classes for around two years before I started to work with Francisca. The two things I like most about her:
1. She never tells you "it's like that, there's no reason why". She has an intrinsic interest to understand languages (she speaks many more than just Spanish) and if she happens not to have an explanation at hand, she will very soon come up with one. Very soon means within five minutes while you translate your next sentence.
2. She's a native speaker. There's nothing that replaces this feature.
Ms. R. has been very helpful to my son with his third year Spanish class. She is always well prepared and is very easy to communicate with between lessons. She has introduced my son to many resources that have helped him prepare for class and his teacher has noticed the improvement in my son's performance since he began working with Ms. R. I wish we had found her sooner.
Francisca has been great to work with. My daughter is a Sophomore in high school and is taking Junior level Spanish. Francisca has been very accommodating of our busy and ever changing schedule, shows up on time and prepared. These are my daughters words about Francisca as a Spanish tutor:
Francisca is a great tutor! She has helped me improve my grade by fully explaining and teaching concepts (especially grammar) in ways that are easier to understand and remember than how our book and my teacher are teaching them. She has helped me find ways to practice and memorize my vocabulary that are easy and efficient. Oh yeah, she is really nice too.
My son was struggling with grammar in his AP Spanish class. Francisca helped him bring his grade up to an A. She is a great tutor and I highly recommend her!
Fransisca was an instant hit with my 2 kids, they are 11 and 12. We evaluated one other teacher, but ended our search when we met Fransisca. She is very competent, and a natural speaking Spanish speaker. What I really like is that Fransisca seems very happy teaching and interacting with children. She also has a good sense of humor and you really need that in our home. Also, she is very creative and responds well to my request. This is only our second lesson but I only have good things to say about her tutoring skills and personality. Also, she is prompt, she was always on-time.

I wrote the first review after two lessons, but now my two children have had an entire summer with Fransisca and she is still wonderful! My son says, and I agree, that he and his sister learned more this summer than he did in school. He had 3 semesters of 7th grade Spanish and one semester in the six grade. And yet, he has learned more with Fransisca this summer. It has been a really good summer with Fransisca coming weekly. We even took a Spanish Cooking Class with Fransisca....so delish! They both really look forward to seeing her, she is so much fun and they are sad about not seeing her weekly. We hope that her teaching schedule will allow for some lessons, maybe before big test....she is officially their "Favorite Teacher."
Francisca is awesome. She connected with my daughter immediately and has a way of making her Spanish tutoring fun. My daughter looks forward to her visits and says she is the best.
When I first met Francisca she was energetic and ready to help me master Spanish. Francisca worked around my schedule being that I was a full time work-a-holic and very good at communicating via by phone and email when it came to any conflictions with our lessons. I enjoyed by experience and would recommend not only WyzAnt but Francisca the go to when it comes to the course.
I enjoyed working with Francisca R. She took the time to shop with me for materials I needed and always was willing to do a little extra for me in our lessons. Besides being a master linguist, she's a top notch teacher with a proven methodology for aiding a student in learning a new language. I really improved under her guidance.
Francisca was an excellent Spanish tutor for my daughter. She went out of her way to contact her Spanish teacher to review areas she needed additional help with. She was very flexible with time and worked with her way in to the evening to work around my daughter's dance schedule. Francisca helped her get through a subject she really struggled with. I highly recommend her!!
Very Organized and structured. Knows the material. My son found her very good at the subject and learned quite a few things that he was not able to in school.
Francisca R is very professional, concise, well organized, very friendly and helpful. I used Francisca to learn Spanish. I highly recommend her! Thank you!
Francisca is a wonderful person and tutor. She is extremely dedicated, patient and caring. She really helped my daughter and I would use her services again.
We are a husband and wife couple with different levels of understanding of the Spanish language. Francisca is doing a fantastic job providing us with customized teaching to address our particular situation. We enjoy the individual attention as opposed to the stiffness of a classroom setting. She is also very personable and accommodating.
Great teacher who really helped me a lot with Spanish. I was completely new to the language and she was extremely useful. She went above and beyond expectations.
Thank you Mrs. R.!
My son's grade went up by a letter after starting with Francisca. Uses various sources of information while teaching and it is highly beneficial.
Francisca worked very well with our daughter. She came into this pretty cold, Katie was lacking in several areas. Francisca was able to quickly center Katie on a particular lesson and work through it quite well. Most importantly Katie responded well to her and looks forward to continuing, perhaps even in other subjects.
Francisca is wonderful. Since he started working with her, our son's understanding has steadily improved, along with his grades, in honor's spanish. She is easy to reach, and very flexible. Francisca suggested several grammar websites for extra practice, and made herself available between tutoring sessions, exchanging worksheets via email. We would highly recommend Francisca.
After Francesca started tutoring my son, his grade jumped to a B- in just two months. I can tell that Francesca loves teaching and is interested in student success. Also, she's up to date with technology, incorporating use of computer apps in learning (new apps for iPad and iPhone)that are popular with tech savvy kids. She is very involved in the teaching process, following up with the Spanish teacher in school about lessons plans, quizzes and tests. I would recommend Francesca to anyone that is interested in learning Spanish or improving their performance in Spanish class.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a very strong grasp of grammar and I know how use this to teach students how to prepare for the English portion of the ACT. I feel that my British education prepared me for teaching the finer points of grammar to students of all nationalities. Knowing several foreign languages has also helped me understand grammar and how things should be written.
I am a fully certified teacher in the state of Michigan. I am certified to teach any subject K-8. I currently teach Spanish in the Berkley school district and last year I taught 4th grade. I can show proof of my certification or you can check with the state of Michigan.
I attended a British school from kindergarten until high school where I received a wonderful classical education. My grasp of English grammar, spelling, and my ability to write is very advanced. I am an avid reader and writer, and love to impart my knowledge of English. I have taken many writing courses, and I am an editor of a literature blog, where I not only write my own stories, but also edit stories sent to me to be posted on my blog. I would love to help you improve your English skills.
I taught ESL at a public school for a year. I also taught ESL to Japanese businessmen in the automotive industry for several years. I went to a British school, and my grammar and spelling are perfect.
Although I am a native Spanish/English speaker, I am also fluent in French. I began learning French when I was in third grade, and I took it throughout high school, and minored in French in college. I also lived in Paris for several months. I am currently tutoring seven high school students in French. They all attend one of the local IA schools. I am also tutoring two adults in French, both of whom are learning it for the pure pleasure of this beautiful language. Some years ago I worked for a foreign language center, and I taught French to business men who needed to learn it for work.
My French accent is superb, and I am often thought to be a native French speaker. French is one of my favorite foreign languages, and I would love to help you learn it.
My grasp of the English grammar is excellent. When I was growing up, I went to a British school in Europe. This school was run by a very proper British couple, both of them graduates from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and they taught us the Queen's English from an early age. The GCSE exams that I took at this school, from London University, earned me enough credits to begin MSU as a sophomore. The English school system is one of the best in the world where grammar is concerned. I am a writer and an editor of a literary website, and I help many local poets to write their poetry with proper grammar. When texting first became popular, it took me a very long time to deign to use terms like "U R", and other shortened expressions, as I felt that my long ago British principals would shake their heads in displeasure if they ever found out! I can help you with any of your grammar problems.
I have taken many years of Italian, and speak it very well. Growing up in Europe,I had many chances to visit Italy, which is a beautiful country. I would love to help you learn or improve your Italian.
I have many loves as an educator. If writing is one of them, reading literature is just as important to me. I attended a British school from kindergarten to 12th grade, and we read all the English classics before even getting to high school. I had read most of Shakespeare's plays before 10th grade. I have also read many of the American classics too, as well as most of the popular children's stories in existence. My oldest son loves to read as much as I do, and whenever he found a book he loved, he would pass it on to me. Last year I taught 4th grade, and I began to read a lot of the wonderful elementary books out there. I have read all the Twilight books and everything written by Rick Riordan. When I go to the library, I come out with no less than a dozen books that I read within just weeks. I love reading books, and then discussing them or finding meaning to them. I would love to help you with your literature classes.
I am experienced in using all Apple products. I have an iPhone and an IPad that I use every day, for both personal use and for tutoring purposes. I know how to use and look for apps, how to find and save favorite websites. I do not have a Macintosh at the moment, but I use Macs with some of the students that I tutor. I love all of the Apple products. I have taught several people how to use iPads and iPhones, how to sync them and update them, and how to install apps. I would be able to help anyone not used to these devices.
I have helped many college students edit and write papers, and I have helped them get very good grades on these papers. I can help with most college subjects, unless it is mathematical or very technical or using complex medical or legal terms. I excel at term papers and literary papers.
I have always been an avid reader, ever since I was a young girl. I always excelled at reading comprehensions, finding it easy to not only enjoy what I read, but also was able to make sense of what I read. As a teacher, I help my students understand what they are reading, so that they can correctly answer questions about their comprehension of anything they have to read.
I have been an avid salsa dancer since my college years in the 80s. I have taken many classes and I go to all the local salsa clubs. I have taught friends how to salsa dance. Besides teaching languages, salsa dancing is my passion. I would consider myself an advanced salsa dancer.
I have helped several of my foreign language students with preparing for the SAT. My own British schooling helped me with grammar exams and vocabulary proficiency.
Thanks to my British education, I have an excellent grasp of the English grammar. This helps me tutor students taking tests like the SAT and/or the ACT. I have a background in teaching vocabulary and in how to write properly.
I am a native Spanish speaker. I have taught Spanish to both children and adults for many years. I currently teach Spanish at a middle school and I tutor in both Spanish and French to many high school students.
My spelling skills have always been excellent ever since I was in high school. I always won most of the spelling contests at school, and where I work now, many of the teachers and students will ask or email me questions on how to correctly spell words. If you have trouble with spelling, I would love to help you overcome your problems. I have several ways to help my students learn how to spell better.
I have helped many students with study skills. I have tips on how to prepare better for quizzes and tests, how to organize folders and three ring binders in order to be more organized. I help many of my current students become more responsible with homework.
When I taught ESL for a language center, I had several students who were studying for the TOEFL. These students were of several nationalities. I would feel confident helping students study for and pass the TOEFL.
I have an extensive knowledge of vocabulary, thanks to being an avid reader, and having had a classical British education. This knowledge can help me teach students who need to learn or review vocabulary for high school or college tests.
I have always loved to write, beginning when I was very young. I wrote in diaries from age 6 until college. Even today I keep notes on things that I do and feelings I have. I write poems and short stories, and have had these posted on various literary websites. When I taught 4th grade, I was able to bring my love of writing to my students, encouraging them to write about things they knew, and shared my stories that I wrote about my own childhood. These days I write stories about my experiences as an adult. I would love to help you with any of your writing issues.
