Hello, I’m Kim. As a lifelong tutor and learner, and the mother of a dyslexic daughter, I have first hand experience with different learning styles at all stages of life. Based on my decades of teaching and tutoring experience, I am able to customize our approach to what works best for you to be the most successful in your learning experience.

As a student way back in high school, I was recruited by my teachers to tutor fellow students in math. As an MBA student, I was recruited by my professors to teach college level courses and tutor undergraduate students in Operational Management and Econometrics. During my stay-at-home mom phase, I became a tutor at a local university where I worked in the academic center with college students one-on-one tutoring math, business, science and computer science courses. The center also supported the local community by offering the tutoring services to primary school students. I had many families that entrusted me with their elementary, middle and high school students educational process. During this time, I also learned American Sign Language (ASL) which I used with the deaf and hard of hearing students in the academic center as well as performed in-class interpreting for math and business classes.

As I have never stopped learning, I have also experimented with online learning platforms know as MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) which helped me to understand how online learning is done and how to collaborate with online study groups. This is beneficial for high school and university level students as well as adult learners because much of the content today is being packaged and delivered in these platforms.

I look forward to joining your learning journey and acting as your partner to support what works best for you to succeed. Let’s get started!

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

Understanding the language of mathematics is essential for working within Excel. As a degreed mechanical/electrical engineer with an MBA, spreadsheets have been an integral part of my life for over 35 years (I started out with Lotus 1-2-3 when I was completing my undergraduate thesis). Teaching and tutoring in this tool involves understanding what the student is struggling with and building up from that area of challenge based on how the student understands mathematical language structure. Microsoft Excel is based on this logical language and syntax (rules) and tutoring in this environment requires patience, examples and repetition.

I took up sign language as a hobby 25 years ago to help out a friend who was losing her hearing but she got better and I was hooked. I took small classes at a local church that led me to make friends with many in the deaf community and ended up having one friend who needed a place to live, move into my home, help us take care of our daughter and taught me her language which I was able to use as a academic tutor and classroom interpreter at Madonna University for several years. I possess a unique understanding of how the brain works, through my extensive study of the dyslexic brain, to process input (decoding) and create output (encoding) as it relates to translating words into images and images into words and am able to tutor non-native signers to understand the structure of the language for the receptive part as well as the execution of the expressive part using their own unique learning requirements.

Knows How to Get It Done!

Kimberly, made a difference Day 1! Let's say Mago Smoothies & Math go together (smile). My daughter loves her teaching style. I love her methods. You made 'math learning' fun during the learning process. My daughter shared how you taught her 'tricks' for Algebra and she is already feeling confident after 1 tutor lesson! Wow! Thank you. Can't wait for the next session. You will LOVE her! -Relieved Parent :)
