About Philip

I graduated from Michigan State with a B.S. in Human Biology and I am currently a graduate student at Wayne State pursuing a medical degree. I have years of experience tutoring both friends and classmates in the most conceptually difficult subject areas in Biology, Chemistry, and Reading/Writing. Not only do I have a firm grasp of the challenging subject material, but I am able to patiently explain it in a way that is both easy to understand and interesting for the student.

My experience includes 1 year of tutoring at the college level, 1 year of tutoring at the graduate level, and I have recently started tutoring high school level courses. At the college level, I tutored molecular biology and genetics. At the graduate level, I tutored physiology and neurobiology. At the high school level, I am currently tutoring Algebra, Literature, Geography, and Spanish. While my specialty is certainly in biological sciences, I have a strong background in many subjects and depending on the level of the student, I can be a useful asset in their quest for knowledge and understanding.

However, more important than my education and experience is my personality. I am patient, caring, and understanding. I know that a supportive tutor does not just tell the student the answer, but helps to lead the student to it. Additionally, it is never helpful to become annoyed or upset with a student's difficulty in understanding a problem. At any age, learning takes time, effort, and patience from both the tutor and the student. I also know that learning can be frustrating and I appreciate the value of motivating and praising students for their efforts and accomplishments.

I am fully confident that I can help you master the subject material and help you achieve that grade that you want and deserve.

I am qualified and proficient in many sciences: anatomy, physiology, microbiology, genetics, neurobiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, and many more. I am also proficient in math and English/Literature/Essay Writing. Please don't hesitate to ask if I can help you in a specific area of study!

Please contact me to ask more questions about myself, my educational or personal background, and how I can help you achieve the grades you want and deserve. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry at Michigan State University (achieving a 3.5 and 4.0 in each respective semester) as well as an Organic Chemistry Lab course at MSU. Most recently, I have studied Organic Chemistry extensively in preparation for the MCAT that I took on September 22, 2015.

Pharmacology

I received a 4.0 in pharmacology at Michigan State University during undergrad and I am currently taking a pharmacology course in graduate school at Wayne State. I also achieved a 4.0 in neurobiology in graduate school at Wayne State, which had a strong basis and foundation in pharmacology. Furthermore, many of the rigorous science classes I have taken and excelled in have built upon both the basic and advanced principles of pharmacology.

Sociology

I achieved a 4.0 in sociology at Michigan State University during undergrad. Recently, I studied sociology extensively in preparation for the MCAT which I took 9/21/15 and have a strong grasp of the material. Additionally, I have a very strong background in psychology, which has some overlap with sociology and serves to enrich my understanding of the topic.
