Eastern Michigan University (Mathematics Sec. Ed.)
I pursued a teaching career because I have always loved learning, and helping others. As a student, I found that I excelled in most all subjects with ease, but I watched my younger brother grow up struggling in school. The hardest part for me was that he was his own worst enemy, doubting his abilities, and having his low grades/test scores reaffirm the belief that he was "stupid".
He enrolled himself in the Air Force and received one of the highest test scores on his examinations receiving a medal for the achievement, and yet sometimes he still doubts his abilities. I became a teacher to try to help stop students like my brother from feeling like they can't do well in school. Math carries such a stigma for many students, when really all it is is logical thought patterns, and I truly believe that every person is capable of understanding any mathematics concept.
I will use my Psychology Minor to help build their confidence in the subject while attending to their academic needs within the content. I look forward to working with you and your child/adolescent and commit to providing them with the very best experience I can offer.
I hold a Provisional Teaching Certificate for the State of Michigan in grades 6-12 Mathematics.
I worked as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher for a year in Arizona.
I have prior experience tutoring college level students in various levels of math at Eastern Michigan University.
I have prior private tutoring experience of varying age levels (Secondary).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
