Indian Institute of Science (Electrical Engineer)
My tutoring experience and educational credentials:
Hi! My name is Niru. Over the last twelve years, I have enjoyed working with hundreds of students and helping them perform better in school and college. I am very comfortable working with middle and high school students (in either one-on-one or small group settings). I have also helped many college students as a certified tutor at the Oakland Community College in Michigan.
As for my educational background, I have degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering with minors in Math and Chemistry. I have acquired a deep understanding of Math, Science, and their practical applications. I have excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Having lived in the United States the last 20 years, I also have an appreciation for different ethnic backgrounds and cultures.
Tutoring approach and philosophy:
First and foremost, I make myself approachable so that the students feel comfortable in asking questions and communicating with me. I make an initial assessment of the students in order to tailor my tutoring method to be most effective for their learning. My general approach is to help the students break down large problems into smaller modules to ensure a step-by-step way towards the solution. I strive to keep each and every tutoring session relevant to the subject matter, interesting, and understandable. I help students with mastery of concepts and development of good analytical skills. I also encourage students to foster good study habits to ensure success, better self confidence, and self esteem. Lastly, I make it a point to keep the parents informed of the student's progress, and I always welcome valuable feedback from them.
It is my firm belief that education is an important and ongoing process for students of all ages and levels, and I am confident that I can continue to make a big difference in students' learning. I look forward to hearing from you soon! My tutoring experience and educational credentials:

I will gladly offer discounts for group lessons ($30/hour per student for groups of 2-3) or for multiple-hour lessons for one or more subjects ($30/hour).
We went over various problems and solved them together. I liked that she knew how to solve every single stat. Problem in an efficient way.
Shams, Thank you for your honest and valuable feedback. I enjoyed tutoring you and look forward to helping you in other subjects if there is a need. Have a great Summer!!
She helped with physics and chemistry. She explained concepts clearly, reviewed the materials, and made sure I didn't have any questions. Overall, a good time.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Although Biology is not my primary subject, I have enough knowledge to help students with Honors Biology. I would be referring to text books as additional resources.
Calculus is heavily used in advanced Mathematics and Physics. Doing well in Calculus critically depends on good fundamentals learned earlier (up to Pre-Calculus). I can help high school and college students with Calculus 1 and 2.
I patiently explain the fundamental concepts and then walk the students through the more advanced concepts in Chemistry. I also help them in keeping pace with their classes.
As to the problems in Chemistry, I help students in the comprehension of the question. When a large problem is broken down into smaller ones, students find it easier to understand the steps and find the solution.
I have helped many high school and college students achieve good grades in this subject.
Language is one of the essential pillars to gain an understanding of heritage and culture. With this context in mind, I want to help local students have an opportunity to learn Hindi.
I feel comfortable in explaining Hindi grammar and helping the student develop a good vocabulary, and I will provide ample opportunities to develop fluency in the language. Although I have not had many outside students for Hindi, I have been successful in teaching Hindi to my own kids and a few other students who now have a great appreciation for this beautiful language.
I have studied Hindi and Sanskrit from K through 10 in India, and I am fluent in both spoken and written forms of Hindi. In addition, as a ninth grader I won the All India Amar Bharathi Gold Medal award in Sanskrit. This is relevant because there is a lot in common between these two languages, including the script and word meanings. One can safely claim that Hindi has originated from older languages like Urdu and Sanskrit, so an understanding of the parent languages can elucidate many interesting nuances in Hindi.
I have always had great interest in speaking, reading and writing Hindi. I continue to enjoy it by way of communicating to my Hindi-speaking circle of friends in Hindi, watching Bollywood Hindi movies, and listening to Hindi songs. I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge of this great language with you.
Physics is one my favorite subjects to tutor. I patiently explain the fundamental concepts and then walk the students through the more advanced concepts in Physics.
I can help students with the trig-based Physics or Calculus based Physics. I have helped many high school and college students achieve good grades in this subject.
It is important that a student gets a good grasp of Pre-Calculus as it is that area of Math which integrates or sums up the concepts learned in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry. It is also the foundation for learning Calculus.
With my years of tutoring experience, I can help students with Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I am confident of removing their fear of math and making it an enjoyable learning experience.
Probability is one of the tricky, yet interesting areas of Mathematical studies.
I have been successfully tutoring students in this subject area as a part of high school Algebra and high school Probability and Statistical studies.
I patiently help students familiarize with concepts such as mutually exclusive events, dependent and independent events, conditional probabilities and Venn diagrams. I also help them with the understanding of Discrete Random Variable Distribution and the calculation of the Expected Value E(x), Variance (s^2 ) and the Standard deviation (s), z scores and normal distribution, etc.
Statistics is the study of the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. In applying statistics to either a scientific, industrial, or societal problem, we first begin with a statistical population or a statistical model process to be studied.
I have been helping high school and college students with undergrad level Statistics.
I help them with understanding of concepts, terms and tools used to organize and present data, analyze and interpret data in Statistics such as frequency distribution, histograms, stem and leaf plots, box and whisker plots, skewed distribution, correlation coefficient, probability distribution, calculation of mean and standard deviation, interquartile range, z scores and normal distribution, Venn diagrams, dependent and independent sets, complement of set, union and intersection, conditional probabilities, etc. I help the students solve a variety of problems to ensure that they directly apply the conceptual knowledge.
Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that helps study relationships involving lengths and angles of triangles and is one the most basic and essential areas of Math. Trigonometric functions are also a very important aspect of Differential and Integral Calculus and Undergraduate Physics, all of which are prerequisites for engineering, medicine, and sciences.
In my fifteen years as a tutor, I have been successfully helping high school and college students with the learning of Trigonometry as a Math course and its applications in Physics. I have also helped students with differentiation and integration of trigonometric functions in Calculus.
I first help students learn the three basic trigonometric functions sine, cosine, tan or tangent, the reciprocals of these functions that are named cosecant (csc or cosec), secant (sec), and cotangent (cot), respectively. I also help them graph these functions, given they are circular functions. Then I introduce them to the inverse functions of sine, cosine and tangent that are called the arcsine, arccosine and arctan or arctangent respectively. I help the students learn to prove basic trigonometric identities and help apply them to solving equations.
I help students with the learning of Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, Sum and Difference Identities for Sine, Cosine and Tangent, Double-Angle, Half-Angle Identities for Sine, Cosine and Tangent, Additional identities called Product- to- Sum and Sum-to- Product identities with proofs. I help them in grasping these concepts and definition of functions and the identities to solve problems and trigonometric equations.
