Michigan State University (English)
I am a senior at Michigan State University and my major is English. My end goal is to become an elementary school teacher. I have had experience in the classroom (2nd grade specifically) and have also tutored many high schoolers in math, science, language arts, and life skills. One aspect of tutoring I really love is the bond you create with the student. When the school year ended for my teaching experience at an Elementary School, I was surprised how hard it was, emotionally, even though I was only there three months. The bond is what helps you really understand a student and their needs. Another aspect of tutoring I love is when the child has success. They get really excited and happy and want to brag about to everyone and it fills my heart knowing I helped them achieve that!
I taught at an elementary school for awhile and math was my favorite part! With the curriculum change that has occurred, it may be difficult for some parents to know what to do, but I have had my fair share of experience working with it.
As I stated above, I am a senior English student and have gone through the process of learning all these aspects of the language. I've also always been really good at public speaking and would love to make a student more confident in their public speaking skills.
If you (or your student) are struggling in English or anything in the elementary realm, feel free to contact me on here and we will set up a lesson that works for both us! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
