Hi there! My name is Liz and I've been working as an English teacher in Spain the last nine years. I'm from Michigan, USA and have a Bachelor degree in Spanish from Michigan State University, as well as a State of Michigan teaching certificate for teaching Spanish, English as a Second Language, and Psychology at the secondary level.

In Spain, I've lived mostly on the northern coast, but did also spend a year in the south. I worked in public high schools for four years as an Assistant English Teacher, including one year in a Bilingual Program, where I also assisted in science, history, and music classes. I have seven years of experience working in language academies as well, where I have taught everything from conversation classes to exam preparation, specifically for the Aptis, Cambridge (B1-C2), IELTS, and TOEFL exams.

More recently, I've started working online, tutoring high school students in the USA in Spanish, which is how I really got into online teaching. I've helped students by offering general tutoring in the level they're studying at school, and have also taught research-based classes, where I have shown students how to find authentic Spanish-language resources and how to paraphrase them.

For those interested in general English or Spanish classes, I would consider my teaching style as quite eclectic and personalized. My main focus in on communication, and I really enjoy pulling cultural references into my lessons. I believe that teenagers and adults who want to learn a new language or improve their skills need to be motivated in their classes by finding common ground with their teacher. Both need to see where the student is starting from, how far they want to go with the language, and the best way to get there for that particular student.

Fun facts about me: I did gymnastics for 15 years in the USA, and now I dance classical ballet on pointe! Also, the reason I moved to northern Spain is because I fell in love with it on my study abroad!

Friendly and Patient

I felt very comfortable with Liz. She is friendly, patient and instantly understood what I was looking for in terms of my Spanish lessons. I had given her a heads up in regards to the setting that I work in. She came to the lesson prepared. I really appreciated that.
