I am a first grade teacher recently retired from an elementary school in the Bedford School System. I have extensive experience working with "new learners" and am proficient in all aspects surrounding the kindergarten, first grade, and second grade learning experience. Recognized for getting maximum results in challenging situations, I understand how a child learns and am able to use that to help them build on their successes and learn from their failures. I have been teaching since 1979, and have taught in whole class, small class, and one and one situations, with additional experience in face to face tutoring since 1985. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my 30 years in education, including special education and first grade classrooms, I have had direct interaction with many ADD/ADHD children. I also have attended in-services that specifically deal with ADD/ADHD. In addition, I participated in at least 3 college classes that dealt specifically with ADD/ADHD and many others that touched on the subject indirectly.
I spent 16 years of my career in education as a first grade teacher. The remainder of my time as an educator was spent in special education at the K-6th level, both as a resource room teacher and as a teacher consultant. I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree, as well as a Specialist Certificate in Special Education, and I have a continuing (non-expiring) teaching certificate in the state of Michigan.
