Wayne State University (Music Education)
I am a fourth year Instrumental Music Education student at Wayne State University. I have been pre-student teaching in Grosse Pointe Public Schools since January, and in the Fall I will be student teaching in Ferndale Public Schools. I have experience playing and performing on the double bass, electric bass guitar, guitar, cello, flute, and trombone. I have been a performing bassist since 2010, and I have given private lessons on the bass since 2011.
In addition to teaching private one-on-one lessons, I have taught in various group settings, including running sectionals for high school orchestra programs, team-teaching home schooled students through a program at my university, and of course, teaching band and orchestra classes as part of my pre-student teaching. I have taught students as young as six, as well as adult students older than myself. I have also worked with students diagnosed with various learning disabilities.
Aside from Music, I excelled in the areas of Math and English while in school. I have experience tutoring friends and family members in both content areas. I am confident in my ability to tutor students in Math up to the level of Pre-calculus, and in areas of English including writing, reading, grammar, and spelling.
I believe the most effective way to teach or tutor any student is to customize instruction to fit that student's individual needs and learning styles. Individual students may learn visually, aurally, kinesthetically, or any combination of the three, and so I strive to include all of these methods in my teaching. I believe in my ability to use whichever types of teaching/learning styles are most effective with the individual student.
Please contact me for more any more information. I am excited to answer any of your questions or to clear anything else up. I hope that we will be in contact soon! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
