I come from an educational family. My mother and father are bother teachers and professors and made sure that as a child me and my siblings were always challenged in and out of school academically. Though I could had gone a few different paths in life, I have chosen more of a one on one and service oriented life style. My grandmother brought me into the world of medicine at an early age and poured all she could as a head triage nurse at CHDS, from extracurricular activities to sitting down with doctors and picking their brains about disease process and etiologies. As a child and throughout my school career, I have always helped my fellow classmates and sought after the true understanding of the material so that the application would be second nature.
As a child I started my music career. My father had me in drum lessons at 6 years old and I have played in orchestras, symphonic band, MSBOA, basement bands, church, and studio work. I can read all types of percussion music as well as full drum set music. Reading got higher paying gigs. I still play till this day and couldn't stop if I tried.
I have college education in chemistry, music, and emergency medicine. I am an emergency medical technician and paramedic certified. I am also a certified not licensed EMS instructor. I love anatomy and enjoy teaching it as well as just having a joy of teaching period. I am very active with community education and even life lessons I have learned. In a nut shell, I am a teacher by spirit and see Wyzant as a way to broaden my spectrum of opportunity to reach out to those in need and be available to those looking for help.
Math makes sense to me and I love counting, equations and problem solving. I went as far as Calculus 1 at Wayne State University. Prealgebra and elementary math are a foundation, and a solid foundation will help your skills to build, by providing a solid understanding.
The body is something I teach almost daily. As an EMT-B licensed and EMT-Paramedic certified I love teaching the wonders of the body and really having an understanding about the body. I am into a more Holistic approach to health, so anatomy is vital for healing. Believe it or not, however knowing about your body will help to make changes in your own personal life as well as others. What you learn please share and help the next person that may be bound by simply not knowing, so they can live a better life.
I can read at a very high degree of reading and I can comprehend, reason, apply and rewrite in my own words a summation of what I read. I can almost speed read and challenge myself to up my comprehension with material that is above my level. I grew up writing definitions of words as homework on days I did not have homework. I have translated Shakespeare in Spanish in elementary school and I was on a local poetry slam team here Detroit about 7 years ago. I enjoy most styles of reading from textbook to instruction manuals. I enjoy to this day researching and always exposed to something new in the world of reading.
I have been exposed to music and drums since I was born. My dad plays sax and my mother sings. I have played for live plays with and without charts, and play for numerous churches over the last 20 years. Though I don not have many awards or a tour under my belt, I am still playing and experiences are still happening for me and what I learn I will definitely teach to you.
I believe that a healing can come in many ways, and tutoring is definitely a calling for me. I believe in healing and laboring for people. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
