About Gavin

Dear Potential Student,

Though I am a specialized writing and reading tutor, I can cater to a wide array of subjects, learning styles and ages. I started tutoring when I was 16; assisting a few transitioning high schoolers with their reading comprehension and writing ability (and some added math or science as needed). I helped them both raise their grades in English and Social Studies from the low B range to an A-. I continued tutoring throughout high school and switched to having a small paper editing service in my freshman college dorm. Through which I developed a reputation for significantly raising grades in only an hour or two of editing. I spent two semesters volunteering at an underserved tutoring center to gain experience working with elementary school children (generally 1st-5th), a lot of whom had trouble focusing, behavioral problems or motivational struggles. I became the go-to tutor for teaching organizational skills and study habits to many of the most difficult kids.

I attended my first two years of university at Boston College where I maintained a 3.9 GPA and worked as a library archivist as well as a faculty historian's research assistant. Unforeseen financial problems have caused me to finish up my Bachelor's Degree in History and Philosophy at Wayne State. I am on the dean's list and in the History honors department.

However, I am not just academically qualified. I am an easy-going patient listener, I am committed to planning lessons around your needs and I am comfortable in a diverse range of teaching or learning styles. I am excited by any opportunity to work with someone that learns differently and needs a creative solution to help them better understand concepts.

If that's you then please, don't hesitate to contact me!

Thanks and Peace,
Gavin
