I am a retired elementary teacher who still enjoy teaching. I believe that some students need extra help in their studies. That's why I am making myself available. I have tutored students in the Detroit Public Schools for many years with much success. I am understanding and patient with each individual. I have expectations that the student will do his or her part in learning. I believe every student can learn if given the proper tools to learn. I love a challenge, and will not accept that a student can't learn.
What I learn about tutoring is the one-on-one, or small group setting. Students are more expressive during these times and love telling what they know about a subject. This enables me to challenge them more, and help them to retain the information more. Tutoring takes away from the behavior problems most teachers face teaching large groups of students.
I have a saying: Math is one great big puzzle, you have to put the pieces together. What are the pieces? subtraction, addition, division, multiplication and etc.. I also believe if you can say, you can write it, and if you can write it, you can read it. These are the tools for learning. Students must learn to build on these tools in order to be successful in math and reading. That's my job to help them understand how to manipulate the tools. I am a retired teacher who is still certified. I have improved students' math scores throughout my career, Presently I am teaching 7th and 8th-grade math. I am looking at coming out of the school system and going with more individual teaching.
I can work with your child in math and reading which are two of the more important subject areas.
I am excited about your learning and I am here to help your child become confident and successful at learning. I am available when you need me to be and am looking forward to assisting your child(ren) in their learning. We will become partners and as you improve in your studies, we will both be able to celebrate. If you are looking for someone who cares about your child's education then that person is me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I feel that I am more than qualified to teach this subject, Public Speaking, due to my certification in Elementary Education. I have taught K thru 6th grades. I have taught Public Speaking as a subject during After School tutoring and I have even taught Public Speaking in the classroom to prepare students for the many performances they have in school. Finally, as a teacher, I must teach my students in such a way that they are able to speak publicly with confidence having the knowledge of who their audience is.
