About Lamont

Why is history and the role of government important? For one, the USA is the most unique form of society and the most influential in the world today. In historical terms, it is one of the world's newest forms of self governance. We base our traditions on old world values, yet try to be progressive and reactive to the events around us. It is meant to be a flexible, evolving system that takes its cues from popular demand. However, our ability to change it is infinite and limitless with most people deciding who gets what based on what is profitable and influential to their lives.

I have studied and worked in a variety of fields and have had multiple experiences. I wanted to be a lawyer in high school, ended up studying political science in college as a stepping stone. Then I took classes in Anthropology, Communications, Sociology, and Music History to fulfill requirements and broaden my experience.

After college, I got a job as an Interpreter at Henry Ford Museum, took an Internship at Detroit Historical Museum and worked on the Motown Museum project that created a dual exhibit at the Henry Ford and at Motown. After settling in as the Manager of 'Shop Around' gift shop at Motown, I became involved in retail at a few retail operations and got a degree at Univ of Phoenix in Masters of Management. Now I am a Substitute Teacher for Charter Schools in Detroit. I have plenty of experience and patience working especially in underserved communities.

I strongly believe in using the Internet, magazines, newspapers, utilizing museums, tours and 'outside' experiences to bring a real world model to teaching students in order to show the significance of life experiences in a virtual context; (i.e. how to fill out a job application, how to dress for success, public speaking and other ways to prove effectiveness in any environment, especially for multicultural, business and participatory environments.

I plan to 'awake' the student into understanding their role in society, finding the best opportunities for them to get to the next level.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linux

After dissatisfaction with performing tech services at Staples for Windows XP and Vista computers, I self taught the Linux language for my own computers. I have used OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Puppy Linux. I use apt-get, aptitude, wget, and yum to download updates. I also have made many low RAM computers functional again with this system. In addition, I have been able to use the terminal and command line to fix virus-laden Windows systems from Linux, and have been able to dual boot systems with both OS'es.

Music History

I have a minor in Music History from the Univ of Michigan. I have taken classes in medieval music, the chanson (pre 1600 tonal), classical music, Romantic music and American music to 1980.
