I have always wanted to be a teacher, but did not want the task of classroom management. I have found working individually and with groups of students to be very rewarding and fun. As someone who enjoys learning and school, I wish to instill this love for lifelong learning in others. Additionally, I recognize how difficult it is to obtain a job without a college degree, and I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to obtain one without a high school degree. I hope to help others reach their academic goals, whether it be to just pass the one tricky class, or become top in their class.
I have degrees in Sustainable Business and Biology from Aquinas College located in Grand Rapids, MI, and a Masters in Public Health from Wayne State University. During my time at Aquinas I was an Insignis Honors Student and made the Dean’s List all semesters. I also studied abroad at EARTH University in Limon, Costa Rica. As an eighth grade student I was selected as one of the top 75 students in the county to attend the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center (KAMSC), where I took classes in math, science, research, and technology half a day during my high school career. I earned a 5 on both the AP Statistics and AP Calculus exams, a 4 on the AP Language and Composition exam, and a 3 on the AP Environmental Science exam. Between my high school and college education, I am comfortable teaching math (elementary through calculus and statistics), science (Biology, Environmental Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, Zoology, Genetics, Botany), and Spanish (certified at the Advanced I level Spanish by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, December 2012).
I have quite a bit of formal and informal instructing experience. Most recently, I have taught Environmental Health at Wayne State, and have also assisted with the practicum and capstone courses for the public health program. I was a math and reading interventionist for fifth grade students for a year, and also the school garden coordinator, working with K-8 s
What a great tutor!
We found a true gem in Stephanie. She has tailored our student's lessons to her needs and has been very flexible in meeting our scheduling demands. She knows her subjects and I can tell she truly enjoys being able to help students with their weaker subjects while keeping their big picture in mind. Highly recommend anyone who has an opportunity to work with her. She also has adapted lessons to be done online on Skype which is also a great asset whether she is near or far from your student.Wendi, 12 lessons with Stephanie
Calm, kind and very patient!
My son was having a bad day and had an attitude when Stephanie arrived. She was kind, calm and very patient and positive with him and that changed his attitude right then and he was able to get some of his work done. Thank you Stephanie, you did great!Sharlene, 22 lessons with Stephanie

It was my daughter's first tutoring session and Stephanie had a good multiplication game with a deck of cards that my daughter liked. She's patient and she has a plan for my daughter to do better in math. We look forward to our next session.Rosalba, 8 lessons with Stephanie

Truly An Awesome Experience
Stephanie worked very well with my son. She was wonderful and patient. During our initial visit she completed an assessment to see where my son's strength were and then narrow down where she could best help him. I look forward to working with her moving forward.LaTanya, 20 lessons with Stephanie
Extremely Helpful and Flexible
This was an initial visit with Stephanie that could not have gone better. She put me at ease that as my Son and I start his Senior year in home-school we have her help to stay on task. At our visit today she was interested and helped initiate a plan moving forward. We are looking forward to working with her this school year.Genny, 2 lessons with Stephanie
