I strongly believe that quality, innovative, differentiated education should be accessible to people of all backgrounds and ages across the spectrum from basic foundations to picking up a language or hobby later in life. I am especially passionate about quality foundations for K-2 elementary students. I believe that when children's hearts are captured with a curiosity for learning at a young age and provided strong foundations in literacy and math it has a tremendous impact on the rest of their education - indeed it positively impacts the rest of their lives. My experiences in education continue to enforce this belief and passion to pour into young children's education.
I live in Detroit and currently work as a K/1 ESL, Reading and Math Interventionist at a school in SW Detroit. I have previously worked as a literacy, phonics and reading tutor, a Montessori elementary and Spanish teacher, and a toddler teacher. I have also worked with Reading and Language Arts Centers and am certified as a Phonics First tutor - a program focused on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory phonics curriculum. I believe in individualized and creative approaches to help every student succeed!
I'm a graduate from U of M. I studied Linguistics and Spanish. Currently I am pursuing certification in ESL and Elementary Education at EMU. I love learning languages, traveling, reading, writing, and teaching! I also love doing arts and crafts with children, creating games and doing whatever it takes to make learning fun! I love children and look forward to meeting you and your family!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I previously worked as an elementary and Spanish teacher at a small Montessori school in Detroit. There I worked with a student with ADD/ADHD at a Montessori school in Detroit. I believe that it is important not to label any student as different nor disabled but simply to help them to approach their school work in short, focused bursts and to find hands-on ways for them to engage in their learning. I'm a recent graduate from U of M. I studied Linguistics and Spanish and plan to pursue certification in ESL and Elementary Education at EMU this coming winter.
I currently work at a small Detroit school. One of my students has autism. Working with him over the course of the year, I've worked to provide a stable environment where he has been able to thrive academically and learn on par with his peers as well as begin to discover his individual gifts. Hands-on work has also been extremely effective in helping him learn.
Currently I work part-time at an elementary school as a reading and math interventionist for kindergarten and first grade. Over the summers I also tutor elementary students using the Phonics First curriculum to provide a multisensory, interactive, and memorable approach to phonics and literacy instruction. I previously worked as an elementary and Spanish teacher at a small Montessori school in the city. I loved my job working with kids toward their potential! Before that I worked during the school year for four years at a school in Detroit with kindergartners through third graders, designing individualized lesson plans in reading and writing and growing a relationship with them over the course of the school year. Over summers I also tutored for individual families as well as designed curriculum for and co-taught classes for children learning English as a second language.
Currently I work as a first grade math interventionist at an elementary school. I have also previously worked as an elementary teacher at a small Montessori school and as a private math tutor for elementary students.
I currently work part-time at an elementary school, occasionally teaching kindergarten and first grade science lessons. Previously, I worked as an elementary teacher at a small Montessori school and enjoyed designing hands-on science experiments to introduce students to their ability to innovate and discover.
As a native English speaker, avid reader and writer, and Linguistics major, I love studying and teaching the English language. I'm experienced with working at all levels of English education - including literacy foundations in elementary, grammar and academic writing in secondary and higher education, and ESL education.
I am experienced in designing and executing phonics lessons for both early readers and children/youth learning English as a second language. Currently I teach phonics lessons to kindergartners daily - alongside vocabulary and ESL supports as our school is located in a predominantly immigrant neighborhood. I also spend summers tutoring using the Phonics First curriculum - a multisensory, interactive, and creative approach to phonics learning for children at all levels. Previously, I worked during college for four years at a school in Detroit with kindergartners through third graders, designing individualized lesson plans in reading and writing, many in phonics for early readers.
I currently work at a school where most children speak Spanish as their primary language so I have frequent opportunities to use Spanish as an avenue to teach as well as connect with children and families. Previously I worked as an elementary and Spanish teacher at a small Montessori school in Detroit. There, I taught hands-on classes for 3-6-year-olds as well as elementary students. In the past, I have also tutored middle school through college-aged students in Spanish, covering grammar, reading, writing, translation, and conversation.
