James Madison University (Chemistry)
Oakland University (Master's)
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from James Madison University, Harrisonburg VA in 2013. I am a recent graduate of Oakland University where I earned a Master of Science in Chemistry (2016). I have two years of industrial experience working in a laboratory environment as a level II Chemist. One of my primary responsibilities was training other analysts. My tutoring services would not only incorporate assistance in the course-work theory, I would also be able to provide support for those struggling in their laboratory courses.
I have five years of Organic chemistry and 3 years of General Chemistry tutoring. When tutoring students, I focused my efforts by integrating self-study techniques and strategizing learning tactics to enhance their academic performance. I was effective at evaluating the needs of students and helping them to achieving their weekly goals. As a tutor, I come prepared. I always provide my students with handouts and example problems from concepts presented in their course by closely following a professor’s syllabus and input from the student. I tutor because I value the importance of learning. As Chemistry major, I understand that molecules and electrons are hard to conceptualize. Providing assistance to others in the sciences is my focus. Nothing is better than observing a student actually learning and applying scientific thought.
I am very flexible. If you need last minute help, you can always count on me. Generally, I am available M-F 4:30-10pm; weekends 1pm to 8pm. Great guy- taught me to not memorize Organic and think mechanistically. You won't be disappointed! I went from being totally confused to actually being able to think through the process on my own!
Justin seemed to get off to a good start with my son. If we manage to hit our goal to finish the make-up course through BYU, I will definitely give a higher rating!
I have tutored General Chemistry for two years. As a general chemistry student, I earned a B and B- in each of the courses. I greatly enjoy general chemistry. I wish to help other students to also enjoy this subject.
I tutored Organic Chemistry for 4 years. As an organic Chemistry Student, I earned an A in both semesters. I also have taken Polymer chemistry, a component of organic chemistry and also received an A. I love organic mechanisms and reactions and would love to share my learning experiences with other students. I did not memorize my way through organic chemistry. I have found that those who study with flash cards to memorize their way through often struggle more than those who actually understand what is occurring at the molecular level. My approach is to always follow the electron by applying basic general chemistry concepts: the periodic trends, acid/base theory, etc. Please let me know if additional information is needed.
