Hello there! I am currently a Kindergarten teacher in the Westland area with 3 years of teaching experience. Since I am a full time teacher I am available after school and on weekends. I love teaching and creating specialized lessons to help children succeed in school and improve study skills. I will take the time to find out how your child learns best and work from there to create a plan for success that is fun and interactively tailored to your child's needs. I am looking forward to helping educate and support your child!
I am trained in the current reading tests used in the schools such as Fountis and Pinnell and DRA/QRI and I have the resources and experience to help your child succeed in reading.
As a current teacher I am well versed in the common core standards and I am able to apply my knowledge of the standards in creating or following an effective curriculum for your child.
I have a degree in elementary education and I am certified by the state of Michigan to teach grades K-5 in all content areas. I also have an Early Childhood endorsement which is recommended in teaching for grades pre-K through second. I addition I have three years of experience teaching kindergarten as well as 6 months of experience in a second grade classroom.
Teaching phonics and grammar is a large part if my current job and something that I genuinely enjoy. I feel that over my years of teaching I have acquired a vast amount if strategies to help students succeed in this particular content area.
I know that learning a new skill can seem daunting and not understanding something right away can be tiresome but I would love to show you that with the right strategies and a different approach you can thrive in areas you currently are having trouble with. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified for this certification because I hold a teaching certificate from the state of Michigan as well as a degree in elementary education with an early childhood endorsement from Western Michigan University. I have been a Kindergarten teacher for three years and worked as a tutor and nanny before that all through college. In addition, attend regular professional development workshops and am up to date on the state common core standards.
