Brigham Young University (Neuroscience)
Hi! My name is Hillary, and I love school; in fact, I've spent the last 18 years of my life enjoying it. This year I taught high school physics in Detroit and gave ACT prep after school. I completed my degree in neuroscience and math at Brigham Young University last year, and during my studies, I received a level 2 certification in tutoring. I have a lot of experience tutoring math and science through my current teaching job, my tutoring hours, and my previous jobs as an independent study tutor and TA during my undergraduate degree.
I also have a lot to offer students who are taking standardized college entry tests. In addition to doing well on these tests myself, I have experience preparing students for the math, science, and English portions of the ACT. I am especially qualified to help students with the math and science sections. I love helping students get their best score on the tests that matter. Hi! Hillary has literally been the answer to our prayers for our son. She has a patient and positive approach in her sessions. She doesn't just give our son the answers but uses questions to probe and challenge his thinking.
She is very bright and seems to know exactly how to help him with whatever assignment he has that day. She responds promptly to texts and email and is very prompt.
Can't say enough good things about her and I just hope she never leaves the area!
Thank you Hillary for being awesome!
Great feedback from both Hillary and my 8th grade daughter on their first session. Excited to see our kid grow confidence with math.
Hillary has a rare talent of asking just the right questions to allow her pupil to think out the answers mostly by themselves. We are very impressed and so glad we found her!
Hillary is very patient and detailed when going over each math problem. She will take the time to quiz you to make sure you understand the concept before moving on. If you are looking for a great tutor who knows what she is doing she is the one to choose.
Hillary has been a fabulous tutor for my son who was struggling in high school AP Calculus. She is knowledgeable, patient, and dependable. I especially appreciate that she helps him with concepts, but makes sure that he does all the work. And best of all, she encourages him for every small success and achievement.
End result? My son who was flunking Calculus two months ago just got 85% on his semester final!
Thank you, Hillary!
Hillary comes in and gets right down to business - she utilizes the time fully. She is thoughtful and patient in her approach.
Hillary did a great job helping my daughter come up to speed in her pre calculus class. She not only knows her material well, she is effective at communicating and building confidence in my high school daughter. Hillary is worth every penny we spent and we intend to use her whenever the need arises. I highly recommend Hillary as an effective tutor.
Hillary is very conscientious and thorough. She has helped our son in high school and our daughter in junior high. Her sessions have helped them better understand the subject matter of their classes and focus on their assignments. We have been very pleased with the results.
Hillary is a fantastic tutor. She works with our schedule and is flexible in her availability. She started out tutoring my daughter in College Prep Math and then when my daughter asked her about her upcoming ACT exam Hillary offered to help tutor her for the test! Hurray! We have her over twice a week and she is worth every penny!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am working toward a minor in Logic and thus have completed classes in Deductive Logic and Predicate Logic. I have worked as a teacher's assistant on campus and as a tutor for BYU Independent Study in both logic courses.
