Hello! I hope I can be of assistance to any of you who may need it. I am a proud father of two beautiful children, ages 11 and 15. They are my world and watching them grow assists with my career of helping people. I have 5+ years experience teaching high school/middle school science (Life science, Earth/Space science, Chemistry, Biology, Physical science, Physics) and math (7th grade math, Pre-algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry/Pre-calculus). I have also taught a Life Skills course (which was mixed with Business Math). I have taught at Waterbrook Christian Academy and currently teach full-time at Faithway Christian Academy, both of which are private schools in the Burton area. I was officially a tutor for high school students in the Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth school district for over a year and a half. The majority of my tutoring has been for science and math (mostly math while working for Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth). However, I did tutor in other subject areas, as well as help students in their career paths such as writing letters of recommendation for them. I have also been a substitute teacher on and off for the past 9 years for students K-12 in multiple school districts throughout Genesee County (I still currently sub on some of my days off). I subbed long-term at Kearsley High School for over a marking period while the original teacher was out on sick-leave. I have proctored multiple tests (including ACT and SAT). In addition, I have worked in Summer Science Camps, para-pro positions, special ed classrooms, and other personal tutoring sessions. I even helped my peers with their school work as a student throughout my school career. Additionally, I did an internship as a Teacher's Aide while in high school at an alternative middle school (where I got hired directly afterward). In my experience, I have noticed that every student learns differently. Therefore, no single approach works for everybody. Multiple techniques are required in order to accommodate the many different personalities and learning styles each and every student may possess. I utilize my knowledge and experience to pinpoint what works for a particular student and adapt my lesson plans to specifically fit their needs. I look forward to seeing you all and aiding you and/or your student in your quest for knowledge.

Math has always come natural to me. I think in numbers and have always scored high on anything math related during school. I have independently tutored many students in this subject area for over four years and even worked at a high school for a year and a half as a full-time tutor, where most of the students came to me for help in Algebra and Geometry.

Biology

Science goes hand-in-hand with my personality, as I have always been very inquisitive throughout my entire life. I have a bachelor's degree in biology from U of M Flint. Upon graduation, I interned as a research assistant with my molecular biology professor doing cancer research. I also taught high school biology for two years.

I also co-taught chemistry for a marking period and tutored in-class for a year and a half.

Patient and knowledgeable

My daughter was really pleased with Scott’s patience. She felt like she wasn’t getting a concept and that he was very patient and explains a different way until she got it. We are really happy with the session and plan on using Scott’s services again. Thanks Scott!

I believe he is knowledgeable and patient.

He taught algebra I to my grandson. He questioned my grandson's understanding as he progressed. He spent a lot of time and helped immensely. Thank you. Hopefully our schedules will make more lessons possible.

Great First lesson

The first tutoring session went great! Scott was very personable and my son responded well to him and his way of explaining/teaching. We have set up a future schedule.

Knowledgeable tutor

Scott is very knowledgeable in explaining the concepts of Chemistry and comes prepared to cover the lesson. He is able to accommodate our schedule and recently spent time over two days helping my daughter prepare for her Chemistry mid-term. We have already, and will continue to recommend Scott to others. Thanks Scott!
