About Scott

Hello! I hope I can be of assistance to any of you who may need it. I am a proud father of two beautiful children, ages 7 and 11. They are my world and watching them grow assists with my career of helping people. I have taught six science courses (Life science, Earth/Space science, Chemistry, Biology, Physical science, and Conceptual Physics), over a time period of two years, as well as a Life Skills course (a.k.a Business Math) at a private high school called Faith High in Burton, Michigan. I taught grades 7-12 (my Earth science and life science courses are a 7th/8th grade split class, while the other classes are a single grade level each). I was officially a tutor for high school students in the Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth school district for over a year and a half. The majority of my tutoring has been for science and math (mostly math while working for Bendle/Carman-Ainsworth). However, I did tutor in other subject areas, as well as help students in their career paths such as writing letters of recommendation for them. I have also been a substitute teacher on and off for the past 5 years for students K-12 in multiple school districts throughout Genesee County (before and after teaching full time, on my days off, and even during the summer). I subbed long-term at Kearsley High School for over a marking period while the original teacher was out on sick-leave. I have proctored multiple tests (including ACT and SAT). In addition, I have worked in Summer Science Camps, para-pro positions, special ed, as well as other personal tutoring sessions. I even helped my peers with their school work as a student throughout my school career. Plus, I did an internship while in high school at an alternative middle school (where I got hired directly afterward). In my experience, I have noticed that every student learns differently. Therefore, no single approach works for everybody. Multiple techniques are required in order to accommodate the many different personalities and learning styles each and every student may possess. I utilize my knowledge and experience to pinpoint what works for a particular student and adapt my lesson plans to specifically fit their needs. I look forward to seeing you all and aiding you in your quest for knowledge. Hello! I hope I can be of assistance to any of you who may need it. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Math has always come natural to me. I think in numbers and have always scored high on anything math related during school. I have independently tutored many students in this subject area for over four years and even worked at a high school for a year and a half as a full-time tutor, where most of the students came to me for help in Algebra and Geometry.

Astronomy

Science goes hand-in-hand with my personality, as I have always been very inquisitive throughout my entire life. I have a bachelor's degree in biology (with a strong science background, including multiple astronomy courses) from U of M Flint. I also taught high school space science for one year. Astronomy is actually one of my personal favorites.

Biology

Science goes hand-in-hand with my personality, as I have always been very inquisitive throughout my entire life. I have a bachelor's degree in biology from U of M Flint. Upon graduation, I interned as a research assistant with my molecular biology professor doing cancer research. I also taught high school biology for two years.

Chemistry

Science goes hand-in-hand with my personality, as I have always been very inquisitive throughout my entire life. I have a bachelor's degree in biology (with a strong science background, including two years of chemistry coursework) from U of M Flint. I taught high school chemistry for over two years. I also co-taught chemistry for a marking period and tutored in-class for a year and a half.
