About Amanda

As a Kindergarten-5th Grade Title I Teacher, I spend my days teaching children who struggle to meet grade level expectations. My job requires me to assess skill sets, identify gaps in knowledge, and set objectives for learning. I am evaluated on my ability to close achievement gaps for our school's struggling students, and for the past 4 years I have been given the highest rating possible on all my evaluations. I take great pride in helping students navigate their way to success.

For the past two years I have been an active member of our Intermediate School District's Literacy Leadership team (a group of 10 teachers from 4 counties), and helped to develop an Early Childhood Literacy Plan, Elementary Literacy Plan, and Elementary Grammar Plan for the ISD. Additionally, I consulted on an Elementary Spelling Plan and 6th-12th Literacy Plan. All of these plans have been published at the state level.

I am also the Title I Coordinator for my School District. This portion of my job requires me to complete multiple program reports each year for the State of Michigan's Office of Field Services for Federally Funded Programs. I maintain regular communication with our Field Service Representative and wrote the necessary paperwork to transition our school's Title I Program from being a target assisted program to a school wide program.

Before my current position, I was a 5th grade teacher, 3rd Grade ELA instructor, and Elementary Literacy Specialist. I have completed 12 credits towards a Masters in Counseling Education/Counseling Psychology, and 21 credits towards a Master's in Education. So far, I have earned all A's at the graduate level.

I have a significant love of language and have always been drawn to the written word. My first attempts at proofreading began in high school with friends who were looking for pointers on important papers and assignments. These types of scenarios continued on throughout college, where people would pay me to read their papers. I am an experienced blogger, and, when I was blogging regularly, enjoyed a following of approximately 1500+ regular readers. Even now, in my current position, most teachers on staff put copies of their parent letters in my mailbox to be proofread before they send home a final draft for families. The paperwork I am required to submit to the state annually is tedious and must be done well. I have been told on many occasions that I have a unique skill set when it comes to writing, and I believe (as a proofreader) I can help others take their writing to the next level.

It is my hope that you will give me the opportunity to work with you. I'd prefer to do all of our communication online, I assure you I will be efficient, and I promise I will do my best to help you achieve your goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
