About Mike

I have been intrigued by computers since I was in the fourth grade. That's when I started writing my own programs on notebook paper an typing them into our hand me down computer. I've spent my life learning computers, programming, applications of all kinds, video and photo editing, etc... I love to help people solve problems and become productive.

I have been teaching and supporting computer users for twenty years. I take a friendly, relaxed approach. I work with beginners who just want to get a better understanding of how to do the basics, all the way to experts trying to learn skills for their career.

I tutor General Computer, Microsoft Windows - all versions, Mac, Linux, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Free software, video editing, HTML, networking, web sites, Wordpress, Vintage computing - DOS, Amiga

I have years of experience using SLR and DSLR cameras, and many versions of Photoshop.

I would love to help you get the most out of your computer, software, and the Internet.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linux

I am a Novell Certified Linux Engineer. I have been personally using Linux for more than 10 years. In my daily job, I install, support and maintain Linux servers. My combination of desktop and server Linux experience enables me to see things from multiple perspectives, helping people understand the whole picture and get a better grasp on how everything works together.

Macintosh

I am an avid Macintosh user, and have been using Macs for over twenty years. I was previously an Apple authorized repair technician. In a job for 7 years, I spent a good portion of my time supporting Mac users, doing training and repairs. I consider myself expert level in using Mac software, and love to share my knowledge with others.

Microsoft Windows

As a support person, engineer and IT Manager - I have been using and supporting every version of Windows for the past 20 years. I have provided instruction, tutoring, and support for business and home users, teaching them Windows so they can better do their jobs or just better understand how to use their personal computer. My support background means I have seen every situation and skill level imaginable, so I am never taken by surprise and can adapt to all environments.
