Hi! I'm a full time performer/teacher in the greater Detroit area. I teach all ages, skill levels, and genres of music. Wanna play like Slash? Chet Atkins? Wes Montgomery? Bob Marley? I've got ya! Or maybe you'd like to be able to play a couple Taylor Swift songs at the bonfire? That's no problem. My goal is to develop a curriculum based on the students interest, while introducing relevant concepts that expands their knowledge in a manner that is both constructive and entertaining! By using excellent interpersonal communication skills I present ideas in a variety of ways, while each time listening and adapting to each individuals learning style. I'll offer both technical and abstract explanations of music to encourage each student’s creative instincts and in turn form a more impactful learning experience. Music is incredibly fun, challenging, and rewarding. It's components such as theory/composition/rhythm are incredibly deep and draped in a rich historical context. Learning an instrument improves various cognitive functions, develops both computational skills and social awareness, and its inexplicably entwined with humanity and arguably life itself. I love music and would be honored to share my passion with anyone who is genuinely interested, and I'll do so in a non judgmental, encouraging manner. If music intrigues you, hours of practice become more of a meditation and less of a chore, its incredible how quickly you can progress! BTW I live in Livonia but stay in the Clarkson area often. I prefer to do lessons at the students residence, however if it's a sunny day there's no reason to not play some tunes in the park! Send me an message!
I've been playing guitar/bass/drums for 14+ years while furthering my musical education the entire time. I've played live at various nightclubs, casinos, festivals, and venues such as the Masonic temple, Arts Beats and Eats, Royal Oak Music Theatre etc. 10+ years of recording music, prolific knowledge of computer audio production, 5+ years of live sound engineering. Wide grasp of music theory: how to build chords, extended chords, inversions, substitutions, intervals, sight reading, ear training, how key signatures and diatonic scales work, the seven modes, part writing, accidentals and other exotic and/or commonly used scales such as Romanian minor/phrygian dominant/ diminished etc.
If you have a genuine interest in beginning or continuing your guitar education, I'll help you learn on your terms. If you don't know where to start, I'll do my best to enlighten a pathway that is fascinating and fulfilling. All ages are welcome, from elementary students receiving their 1st guitar to adults looking for a way to unwind after work. Lets Jam! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have 10+ years of private education retaining to guitar and music theory. I understand the physical components of the instrument, basic maintenance such as tuning and changing strings. I understand the mathematical ratios from which the notes are derived as discovered by Pythagoras. I'm proficient at various playing styles and techniques, such as finger picking, up down picking, sweeps, rakes, pick slides, string bends, volume and tone manipulation, palm muting etc. I perform 5 nights a week as a guitarist, playing a plethora of different styles and genres.
I've been recording live instruments, mixing, and mastering, for 10+ years. I have prolific knowledge of pro tools, and am familiar with other similar DAW's such as Logic, Garage band, Ableton, Cakewalk etc. I understand the differences between different types of microphones such as dynamic, ribbon, condenser, etc. where to place them, and how to effectively create and manipulate audible "space" in a recording. I'm very experienced with audio production programs and plug-ins, including reverb, delay, flange, phase, equalization, gates (including rhythm based gates, or frequency based gates with EQ) autotune, compression (including properly using threshold ratio's, attack and release times) side band compression, panning, EQ multiband compression, and various synthesizers and drum machines. I understand the different components of multiple genres and the methods used to achieve a specific "sound". I also have a great understanding of where each instrument lies in the audible spectrum from 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz. And a great ear for tambres and overtones.
