In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently the Student Support Teacher in a K-3 elementary school. Daily I teach phonics skills to students who are struggling to read grade level text. I am versed at using resources such as basal remedial materials, supplemental phonics materials as well as resources from my Reading Recovery training.
I am very adept at breaking the larger learning goal in to attainable specific steps to help students learn needed material. I use a variety of methods (tactile, visual, auditory, movement) to individualize instruction.
