Michigan Technological University (Civil Engineering)
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University (class of 1983). I am a Quality Control Engineer/CNC Lathe Programmer-Operator for a local Grand Rapids, Michigan tool & die shop where I have worked for over 26 years. I have helped tutor several apprentices over the years with their trigonometry and geometry classes (2 fields that are used a lot in this industry). I use trig and geometry on a daily basis and can relate these subjects to everyday life. Math has always been "fun" for me and I have a thorough enough understanding of these subjects that I can teach others in ways that are easy to understand and, hopefully, make it fun for them as well.

Our son really enjoyed working with David. David was patient, helpful and committed to helping our son. We will continue to use him as we move into a new school year! We are grateful to have found a tutor that our son connected with!
Dave is a great tutor! He's always on time and very dependable. He has a way of making problems easier to understand and complete. He's very patient, laid back, and kind, with a good sense of humor. I plan on using him in the future with my children if they struggle with math. Dave also is very reasonably priced, and will meet you right after he gets off work. I can't say enough good things about him! I highly recommend him to anyone!
David jumped right in when we put out an S.O.S. for our daughter's Algebra II emergency call. He was able to work with our schedule and helped our daughter succeed with a 106% on her final!
Dave helped our son get through algebra 2 with his clear approach and thorough explanations. My son appreciated his patient, friendly style of teaching. Dave was always there and ready to go when we requested. We will definitely use him for future math tutoring.
Dave has been wonderful and very easy to work with. He has helped my child with Algebra II making things very easy to understand. His communication is great and he is always happy!
My daughter has met with David twice so far. She reports that she's learned a lot and really likes that he is so patient. At parent teacher conferences, her teacher reported that he has seen a change in her and she is much more happy and confident. Grade so far is up one full letter grade from last semester. Looking forward to the rest of the semester and hopefully final exam time with much less stress.
To update: The trimester just ended. What a difference from last trimester before she met David. Last trimester, final time was a very stressful time. She was tired, anxious, defeated, and struggled greatly to pull off a minimally acceptable grade. This trimester, she studied diligently, slept well, felt very confident, and did very well on the final. As a whole, her grade in the class was up one full letter grade from the trimester before. She and her parents are very pleased. Thank you very much David!
Dave is a great tutor! Every session my son learned 1 or 2 Algebra tricks/hints to push his grade up 2 grades. Thanks for all your help, Dave. It was invaluable.
David has been helping my daughter with Geometry and she has gone from a C average in her math classes to an A in Geometry. We are reserving David for next year for Algebra II!! Great guy!
Dave has been very helpful for my son, who has been struggling with high school math. Dave is always on time, and goes the extra mile to support my son's needs. He seems to connect well with the topic at hand, and gives encouragement where needed.
Dave continues to go the extra mile for my son. He stays late or makes extra time available when there are upcoming tests. He has also found great ways to go over necessary information on a weekly bases, to assist with studying for the final exam.
Thanks Dave, You are awesome!
David was very patient and did a wonderful job with our son. He provided formulas and everything our son needed to succeed. We will be using him again next school year.
I was very impressed with Dave's math skills, he is what he say's "the math whiz". I'm a mature adult that went back to school for a trade and always struggled with math. Dave helped me with the last half of my technical math class with which I received a B+. I would highly recommend Dave as a tutor, he's easy going, caring, worked around my schedule and even made himself available on line if I had an equation I was struggling with. I can't thank him enough!
David is a great tutor. He is very patient and explains things well. My son finds him easy to talk to and has no problem asking questions. I am glad that we found him! It's easy to see that he loves math, which makes the lessons a much more positive experience. I would recommend him to anyone that needs a math tutor!
David is knowledgeable and was very helpful with my college algebra. He was willing to work around my hectic schedule (within reason) and always called after a test to see how it went. We would review my test and go back to the needed areas. His teaching technique is not to do it for you, but to make sure you understand by showing you and then letting you do it on your own. If you need help along the way; he is there for guidance to ensure you’re on the right path. I will be seeking his help in the future. He is truly a great tutor!
David was a very reliable tutor and was flexible with his schedule. He was very helpful with my daughter's studies, and it improved her grade by a whole letter in almost 3 weeks. He knew everything he was doing and had a wide range of knowledge in geometry. When the next school year arrives, I will definitly be giving him another call.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
