Hello! I'm April, and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan double majoring in Economics and Information Science with a minor in Business.
Throughout my life, my teachers and professors have been incredibly impactful to my personal and academic development. Learning can be challenging and sometimes frustrating, but having a good teacher always makes the experience better. As a tutor, I hope to embody this mindset and shape a safe and nurturing environment for my students. I aim to make my tutoring sessions fun and engaging by incorporating interactive activities mixed with course content. I also make sure to include time for the student to work on practice problems and ask any questions they may have. To maximize our time together, I always develop a tailored and structured lesson plan that caters to my students' needs.
I have five years of experience tutoring students from Kindergarten to high school in English. As an English tutor, I worked closely with students both individually and in a classroom setting. Living internationally for a few years, I helped local students gain confidence in their reading, writing, and speaking abilities. In college, I supported elementary school students in learning basic English as part of the America Reads program. Additionally, I coach middle and high school students in Speech & Debate and help prepare them for competitions. I also volunteer as an Economics tutor for my university peers. I help underclassmen with their introductory economics classes and provide practice problems to get them ready for their exams. During our tutoring sessions, I work with students on homework questions and make sure that they are familiar with the content.
I want to help students succeed in their academic, professional, and personal goals. As a tutor, I strive to provide as much support and guidance whenever I can! I am easy to reach and will quickly respond to messages. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or schedule a tutoring session!

Through my time as an English tutor, I supported students in learning how to both read and write in English. For elementary school students, I primarily focused on building their basic English foundation by teaching grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure. I encouraged them to form sentences and write or type them down. For older students, I taught students about essay structures and different writing styles, and provided a variety of practice prompts for students to practice with. Additionally, I am experienced with writing myself as I have participated in extracurricular opportunities such as journalism, academic research, and policy briefings.
