Bio

I have worn different professional hats for some years. I have been a college English Literature and Composition Professor for over forty years. And I have been loving every minute of my working with a wide range of students! I am an owner of two publishing companies, one college textbook publishing and the other self-publishing. I have marketed and edited publications. Finally, I am an author.

I have been mentoring college students and aiding them with their English writing and speaking skills for years. So, now, I am combining all of my experiences as a language skills consultant.

My tutoring services differ from what you may receive in a college classroom or with any other tutor. How? First, I provide at no cost to those I tutor a language skills handbook that I have written. It is packed with information regarding the use of various grammatical factors as well as information regarding punctuation. Next, I provide podcasts that can serve as additional aids to those feeling challenged with sentence structure, verb usage, and pronoun usage. Finally, I am very open to setting up personal podcasts for my students. All they have to do is express a need to understand some particular aspect of the language. I shall set up a personal podcast that will go into detail to answer that inquiry.

As I may have already stated or it should be inferred, I love teaching students. Teaching is my life's breath! I enjoy working with college students, from Freshmen to Ph.D. candidates. From basic English composition to the study of Chaucer, my services are varied and experienced. And so, I welcome students who want to learn, who want to understand, who want the guidance I am willing to share. For any additional questions or to schedule a lesson, I look forward to hearing from you!

My particular interest in my doctoral studies was teaching English writing skills to Deaf college students. My ability to teach American Sign Language and other courses related to Deaf culture widened my breath of knowledge of this culture as well as a better understanding of the culture and linguistics of English-speaking hearing people. Furthermore, my studies and travels abroad and my teaching of students of various linguistic backgrounds have afforded the needed experience to be an effective teacher of ESL students.
Grammar

Grammar

Many of my teaching colleagues consider me a "Grammar Guru." I love working with students who are challenged by complexities and rules of English grammar. I have written two books that provide help with those challenged by English grammar. And for many years I taught basic writing skills courses that concentrated on English grammar skills.
