About Chunjing

My undergraduate major was Teaching Chinese as a second language. I started university in 2009 and finished in 2013. I studied in Jinzhong University, which is famous for its education program in Shanxi province and locates in the Middle of China, 5 hours fast train to Beijing. When I was a university student, I understood that I needed to gain working experience related to teaching. So I worked as an English teacher in an English training school near my campus on weekends. During those semesters, I learned how to developed and implemented daily and unit lesson plans, how to manage classes, how to capture students’ attention, how to explain the concepts clearly and make them easy to understand. That experience helps me know how to be an effective teacher.
Working in Indonesia as a Mandarin teacher is the first full-time job I had after I graduated from the university. This experience was a precious spiritual wealth in my life, it not only allowed me to live in a foreign country for a whole year to experience what is totally different from my own country, but also gave me a great chance to have a better understanding about how to teach non-native language learners Chinese. During this year, I learned how to collaborate with other teachers and assistants, how to communicate with kids who never learned Chinese before and parents who are foreigners. I also learned a lot of teaching skills from Indonesia experienced teachers, such as using cards, power point, videos, picture books, body language, games, and some other ways to make the foreign kids understand better and learn faster. After I came back from Indonesia, I taught foreign adults Chinese in Beijing. It was totally different from teaching kids. I learned how to make Chinese lessons more practical and useful for them because they need to use them in their daily lives, as they have to deal with Chinese people all the time. This experience was one of the most important events for me because I got in touch with many foreign adults who came from different occupations, culture background. I taught them Chinese they taught me what is life. One of my favorite students was come from Thailand who works in Thailand Embassy. He worked more than 12 hours everyday, but still kept going to learn Chinese with me. His patriot hearts, his efforts to make great contribution on a great relationship with China and Thailand, his endeavor to make the world peaceful inspired me to be a person who can do something in the world. My oldest adult student was 69 years old. He used to be a professor in Tokyo University. He is very optimistic and he has great sense of humor. These students had a positive influence on me, which made me always want to be a better person when I with them.

In the four years I studied, I learned modern Chinese for two semesters as well as ancient Chinese. They both briefly introduced the basic information about the development, the rules, the function, the grammar, the phonetics of Chinese and so on. What more, I studied a lot of courses related to Chinese culture, western Culture, world language phonetics, western literature and Chinese literature and so on. Among all the courses, my favorite one was the introduction to teaching Chinese as a second language.

It was not only because I was interested in the academic research in this class, but also I gained a lot of positive energy from my teacher. She was the only one teacher who had experience to teach foreigners before. So she were able to give us demo lessons to let us experience what a foreign language learning class should be like. And her compassion, as well as her communication and organizational skills to a variety of foreign students from all over the world made me want to be a great Chinese teacher like her.

I am full of passion and have great energy on teaching. I love teaching.
