Eastern Michigan University (English Linguistics)
Helping people is the thing that always makes me feel good, and I enjoy language so much that I wish to pass on knowledge and learn about others through teaching English language and grammar.
I studied the English language and linguistics and know much about its structure and function, and have a deep understanding of what grammar is proper and formal, and what grammar is spoken every day by native speakers.
I have two months experience teaching English to Spanish speakers abroad. For one semester of undergrad at Eastern Michigan University I took a class called "Grammar for ESL Teachers" which covered much of the basics that an ESL teacher must know and prepare for.
In summer of 2015 I traveled to Latin America twice to teach English to children and adults alike and many others who I met while in-country. Learning never truly stops in life, and it is never too late to start a new topic.
I appreciate that every person has a different learning style, and so I must adjust and adapt to fit the individual. I greatly enjoy when an idea becomes clear in their mind, and I do my best to see the light bulb turn on.

Intermediate Spanish speaker learned in high school and college. Many Spanish-speaking friends. Experience traveling and teaching English in Latin America (Guatemala, Peru).
I emphasize structure and planning but do not expect perfection, because mistakes are a part of learning as well. Self motivation is important for any sort of step forward. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have two months experience teaching English to Spanish speakers abroad with Maximo Nivel. For one semester of undergrad at Eastern Michigan University I took a class called "Grammar for ESL Teachers" which covered much of the basics that an ESL teacher must know and prepare for. As a native English speaker, I have a good grasp of the language and how difficult it can be to learn a new language especially as an adult.
At Eastern Michigan University my major covered material of the English language and its structure as well as grammar. One class in particular was titled "Modern English Grammar". My employment at Kumon learning center required me to have a careful and close eye for grammar detail and errors made by students, and furthermore how to correct those errors. I have enjoyed reading from an early age and found a love of language which follows a handle of grammar both prescriptive and descriptive.
Reading a book is like installing new software, but your brain is the computer. There can be different purposes to reading, from decoding and analyzing symbolism of poetry to being purely informational content from a biography. Reading comprehension is one of the basic skills that all should have access to, at any age or status.
I have played soccer since I was 4 years old (18 years as of 2016) and have no intention to stop. I began with recreational children's leagues and moved on to Ann Arbor United, then played for the freshmen and JV teams at Huron High School. Forgoing a college team, I decided to play for an adult coed league in Ann Arbor and currently play at Wide World. I can help with many skills from play strategy to footwork.
I am well-versed in Spanish to the point that I can conduct everyday activities in Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia. Altogether I have five years of Spanish language instruction along with friends who speak Spanish at home and to each other in my presence. I taught English to Spanish speakers in two Latin countries for one month in each location, and aim to become fluent in Spanish.
Before pursuing a Linguistics degree, I knew that I had a brain for language because I described myself as "loquacious" at age 10. Further on I sought to discover where words come from (was orange a fruit or a color first?) and which word could be better suited for a specific meaning. A regular habit of reading aided in the growth of my vocabulary along with learning about synonyms and how to use a given word correctly depending on the context.
