About Rachel

Hi, I have a BA in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University. I am proud to be a teacher and have pursued it since I was 3 years old!

I have substitute taught since 2003 in k-8, in various districts in Michigan, as well as taught various grade levels from 2 yrs. through 8th grade in various church programs as well. I have also worked with various homeschooling programs.

I am very flexible with my location and cancellation policies, and will gladly reschedule if necessary. I do ask for Respect though in this, that a cancellation or rescheduling be made within at least a day.

I have come from a reading family that loves to read and will get locked in the library! (haha!) I learned quickly through being read to through life and not through the traditional phonics programs taught in schools; though I am familiar with them hence my Education certification.

My biggest outstanding quality that makes me an outstanding and friendly educator is my belief that "Every student is Unique and learns in his or her own way!" Therefore, I use this along with scores from assessments in creating my lessons, so that "Each" student benefits and comes away successful! This has proved to be a very successful tactic and has never failed.

I have a Elementary Education certification in k-5; and am willing to tutor in "ANY" of the general subject areas (Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Geography, Language Arts, Spelling, etc...).

I also because of my very broad experience, I am also willing to tutor below the kindergarten level; and help prepare students for kindergarten; as well as tutoring up through 8th grade.

I also am very creative and Love writing; so I can also help with small muscle coordination and focus in working on various art and craft projects, to working on writing skills as well.

I look forward to helping you earn that 'A'; and look forward to hearing from you! :)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I have played Softball and in various positions, and could help with baseball just as well. Since all the same terminology is the same, its just a smaller ball.

Basketball

I played basketball a few years back in middle school; as well as for fun with family and friends. I'm not the most professional, but I could help others with the terminology or physical skills of shooting or dribbling.

Bible Studies

From Genesis through Revelation, I am familiar and able to help grasp the concepts of any of the books of the Bible; and help any student discover what God wants us to know and live out from each.

Botany

I took Botany classes as part of my Science major in college. I have an integrated Science degree.

Common Core

I am very much familiar with the common core curriculum and standards. it has been a basis of all my lessons created since going through my educational courses at Eastern Michigan University.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a BA in Elementary Education, k-5; therefore I am certified to teach any subject at the elementary level k-5.

Elementary Science

I have a BA in elementary Education, therefore I can teach ANY form of science at the Elementary k-5 grade level. Also, my major concentration was Integrated Science.

English

I have my own published poems and stories, and have edited them myself. I also have much patience and love working with students, whether it be learning to write or on their writing skills, or their spelling or reading.

Genetics

I took several genetic courses throughout school that have focused in on studying genetics. I have worked with DNA, RNA, and cross hybrids.

Geography

I Love Geography! I have always aced geography all through school!

Grammar

I have my own published poems and stories; and have edited them myself. I also have much patience and love working with students whether it be learning to write or on their writing skills, or their spelling or reading.

Nutrition

I took several nutrition and fitness classes throughout school.

Soccer

I have played a couple years of soccer myself when I was younger. I have also coached my younger sister's soccer team a couple years as well; in which they were quite successful one year and were able to enjoy the game the other year.

Softball

I have played outfield, catcher, and pitcher through my years. I love Softball and could help with terminology and facts for tests or working on the physical skills of playing.

Tennis

I haven't played tennis on a professional team, but I am very much knowledgeable with the rules and how to play. I also have a close friend who has played tennis all his life and is a physical education teacher and who would be willing to help out as well; just as he's taught me more.

Volleyball

One of my favorite past times. I could help with terminology as well as help with practicing volleyball physically. I can help you get that Serve over the net!
