About Rasna

Hello parents and students!

Last may, I graduated from the University of Michigan where I received my degree in Art and Biomolecular Sciences. Studying these distinct fields allowed me to explore both the humanities (including studio art, English, and foreign languages) and sciences (including hard sciences and math) in depth. Currently, I am a first year medical student back in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan.

My interest in tutoring and teaching stems from my significant experience working with students. As a high school student at Cranbrook Kingswood, I worked with children as a summer camp counselor and teacher in Detroit and Chicago and as a babysitter in the Metro Detroit area. These experiences taught me the importance of making learning enjoyable and allowed me to work with and care for others.

After beginning my undergraduate studies, I continued to teach in a multitude of ways. My sophomore year, I became a Spanish teacher at Haisley Elementary as a part of the Ann Arbor Language Partnership (A2LP) and taught two 4th grade classes twice a week. In addition to the time I spent teaching and preparing lesson plans, I attended a weekly three-hour seminar that focused on teaching practice, theory, and technique. In my first semester of teaching, I was honored to receive the Apprentice Teacher Extraordinaire award for commitment to teaching and excellence in the classroom.

As an undergraduate sophomore and junior, I also began tutoring one of my favorite subjects, organic chemistry, through the University of Michigan Science Learning Center (SLC). My time spent with the SLC allowed me to gain experience working with older students and peers. Together, we prepared for exams, solved problems, and improved student study habits. In addition to my designated help room hours, I participated in leadership trainings sponsored by the SLC each semester.

As a tutor, I will ensure that my students achieve their academic goals, enjoy the learning process, and build their own study habits and techniques.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me so we can discuss the best way for you (or your children) to learn and succeed!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

The Ann Arbor Language Partnership (A2LP) offers University of Michigan students the opportunity to teach 3rd and 4th grade students in Ann Arbor public schools. As a sophomore enrolled in the A2LP program, I became a Spanish teacher at Haisley Elementary School, teaching two 4th grade classes twice a week. Together, we practiced vocabulary and conversation skills while also learning and practicing better study and reading habits. In addition to the time I spent teaching and preparing lesson plans, I also attended a weekly three-hour seminar that focused on teaching practice, theory, and technique. In my first semester of teaching, I was honored to receive the Apprentice Teacher Extraordinaire award for commitment to teaching and excellence in the classroom. Although I specifically taught Spanish, I feel more than comfortable teaching a wide variety of subjects at the K-6th level including English, science, and math.
