Grambling State University (Chemistry and Math)
I have been a tutor at Grambling State University for four years and I have worked with a variety of students from different age ranges and background. I have also tutored a number of students from Louisiana TECH. This experience has enhanced my methods of relating with students and made me more effective at what I do. As an international student who have studied mostly out of the United States, my diverse educational training has also helped me appreciate and present courses from different angles to enhance the understanding of the student. I graduated with honors in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics. Mathematics has also been my subject of interest especially as I use to be a Mathematics and computer science major for two years in Cameroon, West Africa. Most students have a major problem in mathematics and this subject sometimes scare them. The problem is mostly the level at which the material is been presented to them, the time dedicated to make them understand the material and constant practice. Patience, dedication, and hard work has also been the key to success. I love tutoring and I give each student I tutor the maximum attention, patience, time, and dedication needed for them to succeed. I am a student and I very well do understand the areas to be targeted when it comes to tutoring.
I am looking forward to have great tutoring sessions with you. Good luck. Very first lesson, he was able to put the cookies on the bottom shelf for me. Eased my mind about some worries that I had.
I have only had Gordon for one lesson so far for calculus 2. He was very accommodating as to where to meet and on the material.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra, 1 just like Algebra 2, Prealgebra, and Precalculus, marks the foundation to upper level math courses. Understanding the basic concepts in these courses determines how well you will do in higher math courses. I took Algebra in Cameroon, West Africa and this marked the beginning of my love for Math. The approach was perfect. I was trained to understand the concepts and rules of mathematics in such a way that I can never forget. I have also tutored this course for 3 years and I have mastered different ways to explain the concepts.
I took this course in Cameroon West Africa, both in high school level and college level, and I was the best in the class. I also took this course at Grambling State University, and was the most successful student and ranked highest in the class. I have over 2 years experience in tutoring both Calculus I and II for college students, and the MARC scholars at Grambling State University. I have developed better and easier means of approaching calculus problems, some of which might not be presented to you by your teacher due to the limited time they might have in a class setting. I hope I can use my experience to make this easier for you.
Chemistry has different branches. My specialty is in General Chemistry and Analytic Chemistry (Quantitative Analysis in some schools). I have taken a triple dose of these courses. Growing in a system of education where you can specialize your area of study at a very early stage, I was a science major in Cameroon and I took these Chemistry courses at two different levels in secondary and high school, which is equivalent to college level in the United States. I matriculated with A's. At Grambling State University, I am a Chemistry major, and I had perfect scores when I took these courses. Also, I am a tutor for these Chemistry courses at GSU, and I have done this for over 3 years. There are ways of studying Chemistry courses that have worked for me and the students I have tutored. I would love to share this with more students.
This course is one of the bases for further Math courses. The knowledge and topics in Pre-algebra is greatly applied throughout all Math courses. I took this course in Cameroon, West Africa, about 10 years ago, and it was presented to me in such a way that I could never forget the material. As a student at Grambling State University, I have tutored this course for three years to the freshmen as a preparation for college Math courses.
