I am very excited for the opportunity to tutor you or your child! I recently externed at an outpatient center where my primary role was to evaluate and assess children and adolescents for learning disabilities, ADHD, mood disorders, neurological conditions, and developmental disorders. However, I also love working with adults! I taught psychology courses and study skills courses at the college/university level. Prior to becoming a professor, I was a tutor at my university where I helped undergraduate and graduate students in writing and mathematics. Based on these experiences, I am most confident in my ability to tutor most any subjects K-8, algebra at the high school level, reading, and writing at any level.
I hope that all of these experiences demonstrates how passionate I am about helping others - both psychologically and academically! It is nearly impossible for me to describe how rewarding it is to see anyone learn and grow, and believe it to be an honor to be part of this process. I am patient and kind, but at the same time demand critical thinking skills; I try to use examples that are engaging and hope to (gently) push others to not only reach their potential, but more importantly, believe in it.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I spent a year of training for my doctorate in clinical psychology at a pediatric developmental center diagnosing and providing recommendations for children with attention, learning and behavior difficulties. I spent another year at a similar site, where I learned a curriculum for executive functioning that helps students with ADHD and other difficulties in planning and organization. Furthermore, my dissertation is on children with ADHD and attentional difficulties due to mood disorders.
I have experience tutoring children K-6 from a variety of experiences. I volunteered at Mujeres Latinas En Accion, and tutored children whose mothers were survivors of domestic abuse. I was also a private tutor for 2 years, tutoring 3 children grades 2-8.
I teach a college level course titled academic skills for success, which encompasses study skills; I worked at the academic learning center at my university where I helped students figure out strategies that helped them learn better; and I am getting training in an elementary level executive function curriculum that helps children stay organized, focus, and be able to plan ahead.
