I have experience working with adults as well as children, including those with special needs. My background is in psychology and elementary education. I love to assist others with overcoming obstacles in their life and helping them succeed to the best of their ability. Since everyone learns differently, I work to adapt the teaching methods I use to be compatible with the needs of the individual I am working with.
I hold a Master's degree in Professional Counseling as well as a Bachelor's in Psychology and an Associate's in Elementary Education. My experience as a mental health therapist, as well as my education, has helped me gain insight into the unique ways that people of all ages learn and I love to assist in that process of growth. I also have a minor in Spanish which has assisted in my understanding and ability to teach the various components of language.
Apart from my education, I also have both paid and volunteer experience as a tutor in the fields of ESL and elementary education. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have. I have experience working with adults as well as children, including those with special needs. Amy always does her best to improve my English! I enjoy reading several types of articles she sends me and talking with her about it. Pretty friendly and gentle tutor. Highly recommended!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a child I was home-schooled by my mother and that experience has taught me the many unique ways of learning and teaching that are out there to use. I have an Associate's degree in Elementary Education. I also have a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Professional Counseling. I have worked with children and helped them to learn new things both in a clinical setting as well as by tutoring.
Learning study skills and time management can almost seem like a whole new subject to learn for some students. That's because it is! I love working with people of all ages to help them learn ways to spend their time most efficiently and how to become well organized. My work as a mental health therapist has helped me understand the unique needs that each individual has when it comes to learning and managing their time and it is my goal to help the clients I work with develop the best and most effective methods that will work for them.
