About Laura

I am the Director and Founder of a not-for-profit organization connecting psychological and neurobiological insight to non-profit and government sponsored humanitarian efforts.

My interest in the intersection of neuroscience and public engagement emerged as a researcher at the Saxelab Social Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at MIT, where neurobiological research often sought to understand the biological underpinnings of collective victimization, discrimination, and violence as well as seeking to understand the drivers that ultimately lead to a perception of empowerment.

While at MIT, I served as a research mentor for a steady stream of undergraduate and graduate students within the Saxelab and beyond. I built the lab’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) Wiki page, developed syllabi, and established an overarching system for training students new to cognitive psychology & neuroscience. I felt extremely honored that the students felt so comfortable with me that they chose me as their mentor throughout their academic experience. Being able to work closely with students helps the research, theory, and application come alive and is something I hope to continue when time allows through Wyzant.

Cognitive psychology and neuroscience is grounded in mathematical calculations and statistical analysis. I've been enjoying introducing my seven year-old to foundational math concepts and feel comfortable with young children, teenagers, and beyond alike.

I received my Master's in Psychology at Brandeis University and soon there after joined the Saxelab Social Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at MIT. l have written numerous scientific publications, received grants from the Open Society Foundation, and has conducted researcher in conjunction with the DRAPER Institute, the McGovern Institute, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Alliance of Civilizations Media Fund.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in all of your studies!
