About Craig

My name is Craig and I am a graduate student at the Boston University School of Medicine. I am currently researching a new technology to help alleviate pain among cancer patients and burn victims. I'd like to help kids get interested and excited about school by showing them it can lead to interesting and cool places. By sticking with school, I've been able to do research in the Caribbean, explore the mountains of Maine, and feel like I have a true place in this world.

My areas of specialty are broad; my liberal arts education has expanded upon most material within high school curricula. I was never very good at trigonometry, but I make up for it in the areas of English, Science, History, and Technical (Business, Computers, Psychology).

Looking back to high school I wish that I had a mentor that I could relate to, and who could get me excited about studying and doing well (maybe I would have gotten some scholarships if I had tried harder!). If you think your student could benefit from my time, I would love to set up a meeting and see if we mesh.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have a B.A. in Business Psychology from the University of Maine at Farmington. I have completed courses from marketing to management, and have also started my own company. My undergraduate program was focused on business as an independent discipline, along with the interplay between business and psychology.

Logic

As a Java programmer at the Graduate level, logical fallacies are my pet peeve. I have studied symbolic logic since an undergrad, which has given me the ability to express phrases as variables and operators. I additionally have a pragmatic, objective view of life which is another take on the word "logic".

Macintosh

Being raised with Windows, I was eager to begin working with Apple OS once I reached college. Since then, I have been able to transfer all of my Windows OS skills to Apple, including the ability to run Microsoft applications on an iOS machine. I own a Macbook, which I use for my graduate studies, and have been helping others assimilate to the cult-like Apple culture. My proficiency with iOS goes beyond the average home-user, as I use the operating system to remotely connect to a computing cluster on a daily basis. I have experience operating in the shell environment, and can teach tutees how to navigate a terminal via text commands.

Marketing

I was responsible for all marketing efforts while employed at an insurance agency, including: SEO, advertisement via Google Adwords, and physical location aesthetics. My B.A. in Business Psychology had a heavy focus on consumer perception, and I have extensively researched neuromarketing. I have studied Porter, and read the Harvard Business Review in my spare time.

Microsoft Windows

I have experience with the Windows operating system ranging from the file tree structure to troubleshooting "blue screens". I can debug in "Safe Mode" (usually with networking enabled), update operating systems, and run virtual machines. My experience with the Windows OS is beyond the average home-user.

Public Speaking

In high school, I competed in extemporaneous public speaking through DECA and won a regional competition - making my way to the state championship. I have also been awarded 3rd best overall at the Northeast Undergraduate Research and Development Symposium out of almost 200 presentations.
