UMaine at Augusta (Applied Science)
I'm a one of a kind tutor who will help you learn mathematics in a competent manner. I specialize in working with at risk youths or individuals who suffer from ADD/ADHD and have an aspiration to go to college. I require that the student have memorized his or her addition tables and multiplication tables to at least the 10's. That's it, I do all the rest.
I only work with individuals who are dedicated to learning math and have an outlook of bettering their quality of life through higher education. I will work with high school students and adults. The student must be prepared to study outside of the tutoring sessions to expect positive results. I utilize methods of teaching/tutoring unlike most tutors and have tremendous results from my students. I teach a competent level of pre-algebra including history, applications, and detailed theory. I do not teach short cuts or tricks unless they are legitimate forms of learning.
All methods include theory as to the "why things work the way the do," I do not have a "push the make believe button" philosophy. I will not move forward until the student has mastered the present material. Contact me for further information. I currently will work any time, day or night. Chris proved to be an invaluable asset to my son in preparation for his upcoming ASVAB exam. My son immediately connected with Chris and said the tutoring sessions were excellent. To quote my son "Chris is by far the smartest tutor there is, we were really lucky to get him!!". I am thankful to Chris for his professionalism, time and consideration that he has shown to me and my son.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I work with adults, home-school or children having problems understanding Algebraic principles and good solving techniques. If fractions, rational numbers, polynomials, functions, graphing, factoring, or systems and equations are a problem--contact me. I'm willing to work on your schedule, but need at least two hours a week to effectively tutor. If your interested you can e-mail me through WyzAnt.
I focus on whole number theory, fractions, rational numbers, signed numbers, prime number theory, measurement systems, and solving word problems. The approach I use is student centered and I adjust for age, grade, and math maturity.
Areas covered include good study habits for math, Whole Number Theory, Prime Number Theory, Rational Number Theory, Rectangular Coordinate System, Solving Equations, Systems, and Functions.
I require the student be able to recite his addition and multiplication tables to ten with reasonable confidence.
I was enlisted in the US Navy and became an Instructor and Class Commander late in my career. I graduated from Instructor Candidate school with a 4.0 GPA and taught military schools in the advanced electronic field. I entered college in 2000 and have taken at least one class, often two, every semester since then. I'm currently full time at the University of Maine at Augusta as a Senior. I work for the tutoring department and just recently finished both tutoring and study skills training. In 2012 I completed mentoring training school for Mid-coast Restorative Justice here in Maine. From 2000 through 2011 I was a facilitator, and tutor helping incarcerated individuals get their GED's and qualify for college by teaching them Math and study skills. I also have completed ESL training. Recently, my supervisor at the campus has enrolled me as a peer support to assist new students in study skills, tutoring, and learning how to adapt to college and college classes.
