About Nadir

Dear Guest,

Thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Nadir. I provide tutoring in psychology, statistics, criminal justice, political science, government and politics, geography, writing, proofreading, and reading.

Psychology
I was awarded a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree (Psy.D.) by the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Schaumburg. I am currently a licensed psychologist and hold a full-time job as a forensic psychologist for the state of Maine. Prior to this, I completed a number of training experiences in clinical and forensic psychology. I am therefore familiar with many theories in psychology, particularly those in the area of clinical application of those theories such as theories of therapy and psychological assessment.

Statistics
Before I started graduate school, I never would have guessed the amount of overlap between psychology and statistics. The subjects of math and psychology couldn’t have seemed further apart. However, I quickly learned the awesome contribution mathematicians made to psychology. Without them, our profession would arguably not be considered a science at all. Some of the most important discoveries in psychology were made using statistical procedures that measured human behavior. To me, statistics and study design are some of the most exciting areas in psychology. In graduate school, I was a teaching assistant in statistics. I understand that learning statistics can be daunting for some, but I attempt to explain complicated concepts by breaking them down into smaller parts, by using examples, and by relying on visual aids.

Criminal Justice
I was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice by Northern Michigan University. I sought a degree in that field is because I felt a calling to serve my community. During my last year in college, I completed an internship at a prosecutor’s office, where I assisted a county prosecutor. During one of my clinical training experiences in graduate school, I provided group and individual therapy to inmates incarcerated in a medium security state prison. As a result, I have come to be fairly familiar with the stages of the criminal prosecution process. One of my favorite experiences in college was learning about investigations and prosecution from seasoned police officers and attorneys. It is my hope that I can some day pass that wisdom and knowledge to future generations.

Political Science; Government and Politics
I was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science by Northern Michigan University (I was a double major). I became interested in this field after becoming inspired by a professor who was a retired officer of the United States Air Force. He taught us about the United States government while relying on humor and students responded very well. I took another class with him, in which I volunteered in the 2004 Presidential Campaign. I met many wonderful people and made great memories. Since then, I have stayed informed about the developments in recent events and politics.

Geography
Although I do not have a degree in geography, I was born and raised in southern Europe. I learned about the history and geography of Europe and the World there, as it was a required subject through elementary school. Furthermore, I have traveled through Europe and learned about the languages, customs, history, and geography of those areas. In college, I was a member of Model United Nations. As a result, I have become fairly familiar with world geography and nations of the world. I very much enjoy learning about and exploring new places.

Writing and Proofreading
One of the responsibilities of my full-time job includes preparing psychological reports that are understandable to legal professionals. Conveying complicated psychological terms and concepts in simple language is a skill of its own. I proofread my reports several times before I sign them and submit them to the Court. After all, no one is in a better position to judge my work than legal professionals, who make their living off the art of persuasion through language. I believe that I have a responsibility to write not just understandable, but grammatically correct reports. My reports are often all that my clients see about me, so I hold myself to a high standard. I hold my colleagues to the same standard when I proofread their reports. The importance of a correctly written message cannot be understated. In my line of work, it is often the first impression that we make on others.

Reading
Although I consider myself a good reader, to this day I struggle when understanding some reports written by mental health professionals. At times I find myself having to read the same passage multiple times to fully understand the author’s intended message. In helping clients read, I rely on several techniques, depending on the client’s specific needs. At times I allow the client to read without stopping, even if they make errors. Other times, I correct their errors in pronunciation immediately when the client makes them. After reading a passage or a paragraph, I often engage the client in discussion to evaluate their understanding of the material and explain any unfamiliar words of phrases.

Disclaimer: Although I am a licensed psychologist, the services I provide through WyzAnt are tutoring only and therefore are not clinical or psychological in nature. If psychological services are necessary, they should be provided by another licensed psychologist to avoid conflict of interest and dual relationships. For such services, please notify your primary care provider. In case of an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
