Testimonial:

David is a wonderful tutor. Mathematics has always been my weakest skill and I was signed up to take the GRE, and had a month to study. David is extremely knowledgeable and very articulate. I was easily and quickly able to understand the concepts that I had previously struggled to comprehend. David was very patient with both my lack of knowledge and comprehension in the field, which allowed me to quickly pick up on the mathematical concepts that I needed to know for the test. David offered many methods for both learning and recalling the material, which was particularly helpful for the GRE. Working with him was a pleasure and each meeting was both informative and enjoyable. I was surprisingly pleased with my score, and would not have been able to succeed without David’s help.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have recently helped several students prepare for their ACT. These students were able to make particularly good progress with the Math and Science parts (they were already doing well with the other parts).

I love to see students make progress!

ACT Science

I have tutored ACT Science, and every student I worked with found the experience helpful.

ACT Science is a bit different from some of the other tests, and requires putting things together from different places, and making comparisons between different experiments that some students find challenging. I can work with students to help break some of the questions down into simpler pieces, show how some questions can be answered looking only at one experiment, and how to combine the experiments mentally to better answer the comparison questions.

Algebra 1

I've worked with 5 Algebra 1 students over the past twelve months, all of whom have made significant improvements.

I teach mathematics at Husson University, and teach online classes Southern New Hampshire University and Bunker Hill Community College. I have an MS in mathematics from Tufts University, and hold a Massachusetts Secondary teaching certification in mathematics. I'm a member of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Algebra 2

I've worked with 6 Algebra 2 students over the past twelve months, all of whom have made significant improvements. Algebra 2 can be challenging for some students, as a solid foundation of Algebra 1 and, to a lesser extent, Geometry is important. I can solidify these foundations while helping students with the newer material.

Calculus

I've tutored high school students in AP Calculus (AB and BC) and in honors calculus, and I've also tutored college students in first and second year calculus. All of these students have made good progress.

Discrete Math

I have taught Discrete Mathematics at Southern New Hampshire University (online) for 9 terms.

Finite Math

I have taught finite mathematics at Southern New Hampshire University (online) and Bunker Hill Community College.

Geometry

I've helped students in both Honors and College Prep geometry, including geometric transformation-based courses. Students in both proof-oriented and numerical-results-oriented geometry courses have made good progress working with me.

GRE

I have helped a student with intensive tutoring on the math ("Quantitative") part of her GRE - she was very pleased that her score improved and she was admitted to her choice of graduate school. I have also tutored the Verbal part of the exam. I am quite familiar with the exam, and personally scored 800 on both parts when I took the GRE in 2011.

Linear Algebra

I have successfully tutored Linear Algebra to two Boston University students and an MIT student.
In addition to tutoring students taking elementary and advanced Linear Algebra courses, I teach mathematics at Husson University, and teach online classes Southern New Hampshire University and Bunker Hill Community College.

Physics

I've previously taught high school physics for four years. I've tutored AP Physics B and C, Honors Physics, College Prep Physics, and Conceptual Physics for high school students. I've also tutored first year physics for college students.

Prealgebra

I have taught Prealgebra topics to 7th and 8th graders, and also to adults. In particular, I have developed some techniques of teaching signed numbers by working with IOUs that many students have found helpful.

Precalculus

I've worked with 4 Precalculus students over the past twelve months, all of whom have made significant improvements.

Probability

I have taught probability at Quincy College and Southern New Hampshire University, as well as tutoring probability extensively to high school and college students. I teach mathematics at Husson University, and teach online classes Southern New Hampshire University and Bunker Hill Community College.

SAT Math

I have tutored students in SAT math level 1 and level 2 subject tests, and the students have made good progress. I can help with both math content and test-taking strategies for these particular tests.

Statistics

I've tutored high school students in AP Statistics and college preparatory statistics, and I've also tutored college students in Statistics. I've also taught Statistics at Quincy College and am currently teaching Statistics at Husson University.

Trigonometry

I've worked with 4 Trigonometry students over the past twelve months, all of whom have made significant improvements. Trigonometry is a bit different from Algebra because of its geometric roots and need for visualization of the situations involved. I can help by showing how to set up the relevant diagrams, and how to use them.

Hands down the best! — I highly recommend David as a tutor. To say he is an excellent teacher is an understatement. Not only does he make learning difficult material fun he is able to effectively communicate advanced subjects with ease. I thoroughly enjoyed David's help throughout my semester long statistics course & he was always willing to help. After a few sessions with David I felt my confidence level rise and I wa ...
