Hello! My name is Matt, I use he/him pronouns, and I currently live and work on a non-profit educational farm in Rockport, Maine. My main job is to work with a team of local teens to produce food for 22 food pantries and drop sites in Knox County, but I also help coordinate volunteer groups, create curriculum for our Kids Can Grow program, and do occasional work with the cows at our sibling farm down the road. I recently graduated from Bowdoin College on the Dean’s List with a 3.7 GPA. I worked for the Admissions Department as a Tour Guide for all four years and a Receptionist for three, holding positions as a Senior Interviewer and Assistant Head Tour Guide in my final year at Bowdoin. While these roles were all very different, they all gave me a unique perspective on the college application process and an insight into what being a high schooler in the 2020s is like.
In addition to studying education at college, I was a Peer Mentor through the Center for Learning and Teaching at Bowdoin College, where I mentored students on a weekly, biweekly, and appointment-based schedule and led workshops about time management, essay planning, and healthy sleep habits. I was also a Learning Assistant for a course called Educational Psychology, where I held weekly office hours for students in the course and facilitated small discussion groups. In my spare time, I volunteered with an organization called Bear PALS, where current college students worked with a class of English language learners at the local high school during their study hall period, helping them complete their homework, prepare for exams, work through difficult assignments, or plan their time.
In addition to studying education in college, I also majored in religion. My main areas of focus were Judaism and American Religion, but I have course experience in a wide range of religious subjects. I loved taking classes in the religion department and wound up taking far more classes than required! Here are some of the courses that I have taken: Human Sacrifice,
