Hi there! I’m Avery. I graduated college in 2017 with degrees in math and political science before continuing on to graduate school where I studied microeconomics and advanced econometrics. Hi there! I’m Avery. I graduated college in 2017 with degrees in math and political science before continuing on to graduate school where I studied microeconomics and advanced econometrics. After completing graduate school, I moved to Portland to begin my current career as an energy consultant at a company called DNV GL.

While I enjoy the many challenges consulting has to offer, I’ve been missing the teaching opportunities I was fortunate enough to have in grad school, where I helped tutor undergraduates in classes involving statistics, calculus, economics, and other related fields. My interest in teaching comes from my parents, who both teach at the University of Maine.

While I specialize in economics and math, I also have experience in general chemistry, biology, and music theory. Additionally, I have extensive experience with the GRE having coached several students through it after my personal success with the test (327/340).

I am able to provide learning materials if none are available to the student for normal class subjects. SAT and GRE materials may need to be provided or purchased by the student.

I enjoy working with kids of all ages and am hoping to establish symbiotic teacher-student relationships with young people who are trying to improve in any of the areas listed! Please feel free to reach out with questions about me or my resume.

I have an undergraduate math minor and an M.S. in economics with a focus in econometrics. I have experience tutoring advanced concepts to undergraduates who initially struggled with calculus, statistics, and economics.

I firmly believe that every student is capable of learning even the toughest concepts given adequate attention and using the correct style of teaching. Everyone learns in their own way, and as a tutor, I want to help you or your children achieve their potential.

Econometrics

Econometrics

I received a Master of Science degree in economics from the University of Maine where I took several graduate-level econometrics and modeling courses. My graduate thesis required me to use a range of econometric models including OLS, maximum likelihood, and agent based models. My current position as a consultant and data analyst requires that I use these skills daily to model consumer behavior, forecast energy savings, or examine non-energy impacts of savings initiatives.

Computer

SAS,

SAS

My job as a consultant and data analyst requires me to develop SAS code to process and analyze large, complex datasets which are turned into reports that examine the efficacy of New England’s energy efficiency programs. I have 2 years of SAS coding experience.
STATA

STATA

I used STATA as the primary software for analysis when writing my graduate thesis. I also took an advanced econometrics class which included STATA trainings that taught me how to clean, manage, and model data within the software. I now use STATA often to model college football scores.
