My name is Nancy and I have been working in the field of Education for 20+ years. I hold a Master’s degree in Education and over 60 credits in post Master’s Continuing Ed studies. While I am certified to teach regular education, I have a specialty in ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders). Originally from Maine, most recently I have been teaching abroad for the last 7 years in Ireland, Nepal and Jordan. I’m really happy to being back in the U.S. and Maine, especially after being so far away for so long. Traveling is exciting and eye opening, but there is no place like “home.”
Professionally, I think colleagues, parents and students would say I am knowledgeable, kind, funny, organized and effective. Students would say I am interesting and fun. Personally, I would say I am clever, reliable, effective, intuitive and … fun. I love teaching reading and math and helping students to develop a love of learning. If a student is struggling with learning a skill or a concept, I consider it my responsibility to find new and better ways to teach them. I know when to “push” a student to ask them to “grow” and when to back off so they can feel the joy of the successes they have already accomplished.

Im unique, funny and fun. I was the high school valedictorian and attended Dartmouth College so I'm at least average in intelligence (haha... no one wants to hire an inadequate tutor!)
I'm calm and committed. I take my job very seriously in terms of outcomes but my manner is light handed and helpful. I think of learning as a partnership, I always involve the students in the process by asking them what was helpful, what was not. Learning is a 2 way street. I learn about my own skills and abilities through the feedback I receive (both verbally and non verbally.) I hate being bored so I think you might too! Hi!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
